Hi, I noticed that you have made substantial contributions to the German tank problem, I was hoping you could have a look at mark-recapture and improve that? Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 11:42, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi James,
Thank you for your kind words and your note!
However, I can’t help with mark-recapture – I’ve nothing to add, I’m very busy lately, and the existing article seems clear enough on the main idea (Lincoln–Petersen method, compare two ratios). I did learn about shrinkage estimators though, and I’ve made some improvements to sample variance and Bessel's correction.
Good luck with future edits!

Mirror symmetry article

Hello,

I noticed that you're a member of WikiProject Mathematics and that you've expressed interest in algebraic geometry. I wanted to let you know that the article on mirror symmetry is currently a featured article candidate.

If you're interested, we'd love to hear your thoughts on this page. Please note that you do not need to be an expert on the subject.

Thanks for your help!

wb / python programming

Hello Nils,

I noticed that you have added some content to wikibooks, python programming. I am doing some work on it also, and want to make sure that we are not working at cross purposes. I am working to make the material flow more coherently, organised, and remove duplicate/redundant pages. Please let me know if you would like anything reordered specifically. Thanks Hackbinary (talk) 11:05, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Hackbinary,
Thanks for the note!
My interest in b:Python Programming is mostly moving personal notes to Wikibooks, with context and references. This sounds really complementary to your work (coherence, organization, etc.), so I don’t think we’ll be at cross purposes!
Feel free to go ahead without consulting with me, but if you’d like a second opinion or would like me to look at something, please feel free to drop a line!
Most recently I’ve added a lot of content to b:Python Programming/Idioms, which is hopefully useful – a lot of the details are easy to miss.
Thanks for helping out with this – the book needs lots of work!

Statistical population

Dear Nils, I noticed in 2009 you added a section on "Subpopulation" in the article about "Statistical population" and you added a Section expand in this same paragraph. Can this Section expand be removed? Kind regads, Marcocapelle (talk) 10:27, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Added links. —Nils von Barth (nbarth) (talk) 15:54, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi Marco,
Feel free to remove the {{expand section}} template yourself – there’s no need to ask for permission (WP:BOLD)!
Personally, I’ve no objection if you want to remove this template – I think the section needs some work, but it’s fine if you want to remove it.
(Apologies for delayed response – I’ve been v. busy lately.)

Thanks! The funny thing is, (what I experienced so far) if I don't discuss, people get angry, while if I do discuss, it's not necessary :-) Marcocapelle (talk) 16:28, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
No problem – it varies by area and individual, with some areas being much more sensitive than others. I haven’t run into any complaints in statistics, and the general guideline is to use your best judgement, and then discuss once you step on toes.
Happy edits!

International comparison of bikelanes and shared lanes

Hi Nbarth, I've written a table showing a selective international comparison of bikelanes and shared lanes only in German and French. Though my capability of English is much better than that of French, I'm too lazy to write an English version, too.

Do you like to translate it and place it in en.wikipedia, and perhaps to add some more information on USA and Canada?

Cheers, Ulamm (talk) 21:03, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi Ulamm,
Thanks for the note, and apologies for the reply years later!
I've added added a note to the page in case anyone wants to translate it.
I don't have the time, but an international perspective would be a great addition, and your table is very useful; hopefully someone will get to it, now that it's more visible!

Problems with PlanetMath attribution template

Hello Nbarth, I saw you have edited Template:PlanetMath attribution in the past. Unfortunately the template seems to have some bigger problems at the moment, see Template talk:PlanetMath attribution. If you have background knowledge about this template (or know someone else, who has), your help would be greatly appreciated. I know too little about the interface and its connected math website to be of much help myself. GermanJoe (talk) 21:51, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
