User talk:NRDCfactchecker
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, NRDCfactchecker, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Natural Resources Defense Council, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! JesseRafe (talk) 17:19, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Your username
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Natural Resources Defense Council, and I noticed that your username, "NRDCfactchecker", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".
Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username, by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. JesseRafe (talk) 17:24, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
Sockpuppet investigation
[edit]An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/NRDCfactchecker, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

NRDCfactchecker (talk) 14:27, 25 June 2019 (UTC)Hello JesseRafe, I’m sorry for this confusion. I’m a new user and am clearly not doing this all correct! The reason this new account was created was in response to the warning I received after creating the first account.After posting an edit on an account with the username “NRDCfactchecker,” I received a message that read, “"NRDCfactchecker", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website.”
Because I am a single individual and am willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, I attempted to change the previous username, however it was rejected numerous times. To ensure that Wikipedia’s guidelines were being followed in regards to a proper, unaffiliated username I decided it was best to make a new account so that I could continue to make edits while complying with Wikipedia’s policy. I didn’t realize the IP address would see this as sockpuppetry. How do you recommend I move forward? Thank you in advance for your help! NRDCfactchecker (talk) 14:27, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation. However, you do not appear to be editing in an "unbiased manner" at all. You are trying to make the NRDC Wikipedia page an extension of their website, instead of a neutral description of the topic. Also note that it is not considered a good practice to edit the articles of your employer or any entity you are involved in without disclosing that association, and even then, making only the most objective and neutral fact-based edits, which you have not been doing. If it is your intention to contribute to the encyclopedia, I would recommend sticking to articles' subjects you are not affiliated with. JesseRafe (talk) 15:32, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hello User:NRDCfactchecker / User:Nycfactchecker2019 - since this username cannot be used, and you've already created a new account with an allowable username, I've blocked this account. This isn't any sort of punishment, but only our way of handling accounts with usernames that resemble a company. You're welcome to continue editing under your new account, as long as you do so in compliance with WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:NPOV. Thanks! ST47 (talk) 23:03, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
