Welcome

[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Viewmont Viking. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.--VVikingTalkEdits 14:47, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Viewmont Viking. The changes I made were not promotional, but strictly factual based on pubically available information from Carlisle's press releases. I spent an hour making those updates and you summarily undid them. I can edit to make the edits more neutral and remove descriptive words like "superior" but it's counter productive for anyone to remove all of the updates offhand. Please don't do that again, but instead offer suggestions. None of the edits I made were any more promotional than the page content that exists today. I'm just working to make it more up to date. I'm not tyring to advertise or soapbox. Just want to update the page consistent with Wikipedia policy. Your action of deleting the entire page including edits over many years is counterproductive. Is it ok with you if I attempt to update the page? NOLTEQ (talk) 15:07, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you WP:Paid or have a WP:COI if yes to either of those you should not be editing the article directly. You should also review WP:RS as a corporate press release is not a WP:RS. If you continue to add promotional information you will probably be blocked from editing or have your editing abilities restricted. I am fine with you doing whatever you want to do, I will continue to follow Wikipedia policy and processes.--VVikingTalkEdits 15:12, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. I don't want to spend all day on this. I updated the financials from 2020 to 2023, for example. If I can just undo your deletion, and then edit the text to remove anything that sounds promotional or advertising then we'll have a page that meets Wikipedia policy and provides a credible history of the company. Hey VV - As you know, I'm new to Wikipedia, but am enjoying contributing to pages and improving content. I trust this is an interest we share! I did revisit some edits today and noticed that the contents of at least one page in question are summarily deleted, regardless of sourcing. The best practice, as I'm sure you know, isn't to delete but to correct. In that spirit, and in the spirit of collaboration with you, I'll make some revisions, ensuring that all edits are properly sourced. If you see something that requires editing please let me know, and I'll make the necessary edits. This collaborative approach is more in line with Wikipedia guidelines than wholesale deletion. Looking forward to improving content with you! RockyTheWriter (talk) 22:57, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
