Adoption

[edit]

If you'd like to be adopted, I'm willing, able, and happy to do so. I mostly do maintenance type work, referencing articles, and copy editing, but I am familiar with most other aspects of Wikipedia policy and have done pretty much everything there is to do here. Leave a note here or on my talk page to respond or if you have any questions. --Gimme danger 04:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for adopting me.

[edit]

I will write to you tomorrow with details. Thanks again. G. Klein 23:14, 24 July 2007 (UTC)G. Klein[reply]

As you can see from user Adrian MH’s criticism of my self-penned bio, my article doesn’t meet WP’s formatting requirements, and almost everything needs to be certified or verified.

My album credits can be verified in the following book: THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RECORD PRODUCERS

© 1999 by Eric Olsen, Paul Verna and Carlo Wolff

First published in 1999 by Watson-Guptill Publications 1515 Broadway, New York, NY 10036 ISBN 0-8230-7607-5 My bio starts on page 403.

My employment at EMI Music Publishing was verified by the NY Times, and was included in my son’s wedding announcement: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9907E0DE1630F93AA25752C0A9659C8B63

www.bmi.com will verify that I co-wrote BOBBY’S GIRL:

http://repertoire.bmi.com/TitleSearch.asp?querytype=WorkName&page=1&fromrow=1&torow=25&keyname=BOBBY%20S%20GIRL&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=False&blnAltTitles=False

After spending quite a bit of time editing my bio, Adrian M.H. wrote the following, on his “my talk” page: I have just had to revert your last couple of edits, which I have explained in the summary. This is all part of the process of article development on WP. Adrian M. H. 20:35, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I know I improved the language of my article in this reverted edit, and I’d like the chance to bring at least some of it back, if possible.

I recently received a call from my son: Dad, how come you’re not in WP. everyone else (referring to my contemporaries) is?

He was right! Thus, I went to work on my bio.

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I’d like my future grandchildren to know some of my accomplishments. Editing will not be one of them.

Thanks G. Klein 21:35, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hah, yes, editing is in the realm of we wikignomes. I have a few suggestions for you regarding your article. First, if you can give me page numbers for the facts you're citing from the encyclopedia, I can deal with formatting issues. Second, you might want to upload a picture and add an infobox. Thirdly, if you have relevant web sources that aren't appropriate for citation, such as a company-hosted biography or personal website, you can create a section titled External Links and put the urls there. I'll deal with formatting. (I personally am a bit iffy on external links, since they tend to attract spam and unreliable sites like forums. So please don't take any offense if I remove any links. You can always argue for inclusion on the article talk page. The full link policy can be found here.) Lastly, since the list of albums you've produced is rather daunting and difficult to read. Perhaps it could be pared down to include fewer albums, whichever pack the most punch, if you will. Or perhaps it could be made into a list.
I apologize for my late response, but I've been on a train for the last two days and sadly out of touch with the wikiworld. Thank you for creating this article and I hope that you'll stick around and contribute your considerable expertise to this project. (Side note: I love wikipedia. In the last two weeks I've corresponded with colleagues of Richard Feynman and Johnny Cash. I'm half expecting to find someone tomorrow who hosted Paul Erdös and then a triangle of my heros could be completed. Okay, sorry about the fangirl reaction. But still, this is so cool.) If you have any questions, comments, concerns or quibbles, leave me a note here or on my talk page. --Gimme danger 16:32, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took your advice and pared down the album list. My bio is on pages 403, 404 & 405. I'd like an external link to my website, but I'm not sure how to do this or if it's acceptable to WP. Sounds like you're meeting some very cool people. Thanks again for your help.G. Klein 14:05, 29 July 2007 (UTC)G. Klein 14:38, 31 July 2007 (UTC) G. Klein 14:49, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A reminder about the unaddressed issues with Gary Klein (producer)

[edit]

I left a note on the article's talk page and added {{fact}} tags some weeks ago, but the issue has still not been addressed. It currently fails Verifiability and Biographies of living people, which are important policies. Writing from your own knowledge – even though I have little doubt that it is truthful and accurate in this instance – counts as original research. As WP:V states, unverified material can be contended and may subject to removal if the source is not cited in some form after a reasonable period of time. Given your direct relationship to this article, I am not going to remove any material because I do not believe that it would be productive or appropriate to do so, but the BLP policy does still apply. This also influences notability, because that is demonstrated by independent non-trivial coverage. I'm sure that such coverage must exist somewhere – in a book, music journal, or magazine, for example. This article deserves to stay, but I can envisage someone taking it to AFD somewhere down the line if it remains unchanged. As always, I am available if you need my assistance or advice. Adrian M. H. 13:54, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've finally gotten around to addressing the references. I apologize for the delay.--Gimme danger 19:31, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That looks a lot tidier, and no user sigs in sight, either! Adrian M. H. 19:32, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please help clarify the following: 1. I'm a (*record* producer), not a film or theatrical producer. 2. (external link) My website is about food *photography.* Thank you so much for your help with this. I'm very greatful.G. Klein 13:29, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you are actually asking, Gary. You are/were a producer of music recordings, right? It doesn't really matter what you produced, or didn't produce. If you are referring to the title of the article, WP has a mixture of bracketed determiners for your profession that include (producer). See Flood (producer), for example. If it really bothers you, though, feel free to move the page. Really not sure about your second point. Adrian M. H. 14:11, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Adrian, the internal link to producer went to a disambig page. Gary, if that was the issue you were concerned about, I changed that. I also fixed the external link description. --Gimme danger 14:56, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adrian - I was referring to the title of the article. Thanks for explaining WP's bracketed determiners. I still think "producer" is too generic a term, but I'm ok with it. Gimme danger - Thanks for fixing the external link; that was my concern. Is there anything I can do to resolve "citation needed" re my website?G. Klein 15:02, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, actually. In the circumstances, you could just remove the tag. It would be nice if there was a source that provided a bio or interview from a reliable source in which your current interests were mentioned, but if there isn't, we can let that pass by, I'm sure. Normally, I would tend to take a source-it-or-omit-it approach, per the letter of WP:BLP/WP:V and Jimmy Wales's own take on dealing with BLPs. You could move the article to rename it if you wanted to, although going from (producer) to (record producer) would normally only be done when a rare disambiguation issue arises in which we have three people with the same name and occupation! That would need two with determiners and one without. Adrian M. H. 16:55, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ending Adoption
