Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Mxdartist. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Aditi Sen De, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 18:06, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- Dear @Kj cheetham, thank you so much for the welcome. I have been on and off on Wikipedia, so it is a pleasant "welcome" indeed!
- Also, thank you for the reminder with regards to the conflict of interest. I completely agree with the issues raised in the text and in principle, one should avoid these points mentioned. However, I am trying to highlight the role of prominent women scientists in India. My motivation is to take a small step towards promoting science among women in India, especially given that they are massively underrepresented in STEM subjects. The best place for me to start is with the few women scientists I have known in some professional capacity, and those that are making great strides in their fields. As such, even though there is a small conflict, I personally believe my larger aim here is of greater significance to the entire ethos of Wikipedia. Besides, Aditi Sen De is a celebrated Indian women physicist and her story is easily verifiable from different sources.
- However, I will keep in mind of the points you raised in future articles and edit. Thank you once more. Mxdartist (talk) 07:14, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Mxdartist, much as I agree with the need to promote women scientists, if wanting to edit the article of someone you professionally know I'd still strongly recommend to instead request edits on the talk page to avoid any potential conflict of interest, and to always declare instances when you have a connection in any case. -Kj cheetham (talk) 08:22, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kj cheetham Sure, will keep this in mind. Mxdartist (talk) 14:23, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
