Edit Summary Request

[edit]

I have noted that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Wikipedia. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! -- Kukini 21:35, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Cujo3.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Cujo3.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Voodoo article

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to the article Voodoo. However, your edits do not follow the Manual of Style (such as sections/headlines and wiki-links). Also, it is good practice to compose an article in a sandbox first (you can create your own, for example User:Mwhs/sandbox) instead of working and re-working the article directly in te main space. As it is now, the article is very likely to be reverted to an earlier version. Qyd(talk)16:06, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism to Voodoo - warning 3

[edit]

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Voodoo, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --Hetar 21:06, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

while not exactly vandalism, your edits are copyright violations (copy-paste from various webpages and google-books), the images added will be deleted due to copyright; continuing to edit in spite of several warnings is considered edit war, especially since you don't reply to warnings and remarks, and continue to ignore WP:MOS. Moved article edits to your userpage User:Mwhs/sandbox. Qyd(talk)21:55, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

You have been blocked in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating policy against WP:3RR on Voodoo. To contest this block, please reply here on your talk page by adding the text {{unblock}} along with the reason you believe the block is unjustified, or email the blocking administrator or any administrator from this list.
Note to sysops: Unblocking yourself should almost never be done. If you disagree with the block, contact another administrator. KillerChihuahua?!? 09:49, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mami Wata

[edit]

Please read Wikipedia's policies about neutral point of view, source citation, and verifiability. Because your recent edits to Voodoo and Mami Wata were in violation of these policies, they unfortunately had to be removed. Do not let this discourage you from contributing, but please be aware that there are ground rules as to what sorts of contributions may be made to the encyclopedia. Thanks! — BrianSmithson 15:13, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And reverting Brians revert without commenting here ensures that your edits will not succeed. Please answer his concerns, either here or on the talk page of the article. Wizzy 15:50, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have inserted your text again. I removed it. Wikipedia has policies and guidelines, and if you continue to ignore them, your contributions to articles will also be ignored. Also see our Manual of Style. Thanks, — BrianSmithson 16:18, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You continue to ignore my attempts to open a dialogue with you. I have tried to call in other editors to perhaps persuade you to talk to us, but if you continue with your current behavior and ignore your fellow contributors, I am going to pursue dispute resolution procedures. — BrianSmithson 17:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting

[edit]

Hi, Mwhs. I noticed your edits to Vodou, and I wanted to give you some pointers on Wiki formatting (it's not completely use friendly). It appears you may be doing your writing in a word processor and then copying and pasting the text into the Wikipedia window. What you might want to do is to save the text as plain text with no line breaks before pasting it. This might help with some of the strange line breaks you are getting. (Essentially, the Wiki software makes the line breaks automatically based on the size of the reader's internet browser window.) — BrianSmithson 17:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging for Image:Vodou_dance2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Vodou_dance2.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

I have posted a summary of our dispute at Talk:Mami Wata. Please review this summary and make sure that I have not mischaracterized your position. Keep in mind that the summary is not supposed to hold any identifying information so that outsiders will not be able to tell who wrote it (so don't sign your name to the summary itself, only to the "Comments" section below it). I hope that we can resolve this dispute soon. — BrianSmithson 15:11, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Image3502.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Image3502.png. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BrownCow • (how now?) 18:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Role account?

[edit]

This user seems to be a role account used by members of the Mami Wata Healers Society. Posts on talk pages have been signed by this user as "<name>--MWHS, <timestamp>" e.g. here. User:Stacey Peterson may be one of the persons editing as this user or a sockpuppet role account used by multiple MWHS members (see the same page). - (), 06:39, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At that page, the only <name> used by this account has been "Anagossii". Stacey Peterson did use a similar form of signing "<name>, IP address, timestamp" when editing as an IP editor, but has recently switched to User:Stacey Peterson. Compare Starblind's signature. Deletion Review

[edit]

You made two minor mistakes in posting your deletion review request. That is quite understandable, don't worry about it. The admin that fixed one of them didn't notice the second. Your request is now at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2007 January 18#Mami Wata Healers Society of North America Inc. Assuming good faith

[edit]

I really wish you would stop assuming that I am actively working against you on Wikipedia (I am presumably the admin who "spearheaded [the effort to get your society's article deleted] . . . in retaliation for us contributing heavily to an article he has written" that you mention here? If you will review the deletion debate, you will see that I actually provided several third-party sources that mention MWHS or its website, at least one of which discusses your organization independently. In other words, I was trying to make sure the case for or against deletion would be as fair as possible.

I have largely been trying to avoid addressing you directly, because you seem to assume that everything I say is an attack on you, your organization, or your founder. But I am not your enemy, and it would benefit everyone if you would stop considering me to be such. Consider this my attempt to bury the hatchet. Thanks for your time, — BrianSmithson 22:35, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brain, we have no problem working with you or anyone else who is interested in contributing to the article. We will honor your attempts at reconciliation and look forward to editing and contributiing to the article. Anagossii--MWHS 19:38, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and good to hear. I'll see you around the Wiki. — BrianSmithson 22:46, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Image3501.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Image3501.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Image format and resolution issues

Hi, I see you've been active again. Do you still have the originals of Vodou dancer4.jpg, Priestess.png, Mam priestess.png and Shrine 1.png? If so, could you please upload them in the JPEG image format (not PNG which is not suitable for photos) with a suitable free license? Please upload the original, high resolution images, as MediaWiki knows how to scale images and there is no need to upload thumbnails or scaled-down versions. Please don't add any borders or text, either. Thanks :-) - (), 20:16, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Mami Wata‎ , you will be blocked from editing. - Rklawton (talk) 14:22, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We have not "vandalized" this article. We have removed our contribution since you claimed it to be SPAM. You cannot remove our links and allow our contributions to enhance this article. Now that you have reverted this article we have everyright to dispute its accuracy, which we have done. We will also continue to remove our "SPAM" that has contributed to this article almost since its inception.--MWHS (talk) 17:24, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Rklawton (talk) 19:19, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. TNXMan 19:28, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, MWHS has the right to dispute the accuracy and the exploitative, self-serving manner in which this information is being abused to misrepresent our contribution. That is our right, and we have done so. MWHS’ rejection of this blatant editorial abuse does not constitute vandalism. We are displaying before the world the inherent racism, selective censorship and the belligerent and hostile environment which is indicative of what African-Americans and other ethnic groups are dealt at Wikipedia. The racist, hostile, disrespectful and degrading spirit in which you respond speaks for itself. This rebuttal serves for the historical record, adding to the implosion of complaints against "editors" of Wiki; and has tragically undermined its legitimacy as a credible reference resource. --MWHS (talk) 19:32, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
