Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Tobe Nwigwe, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Igbo. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:10, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial topic area alerts

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. — Newslinger talk 06:05, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Muhammad. Your 2022 additions to Robert B. Spencer suffer from the same issues as those you made in 2021. While the material all seems plausible, it also unsourced. Please add relevant sources. This is especially important when you make additions to articles of living persons per WP:BLP. Snuish (talk) 00:14, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the material. It's still available in the edit history of the article if you'd like to restore it with better sourcing. Snuish (talk) 16:35, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for following up. I know Spencer personally somewhat and know all the material I supplied to be accurate, but I don’t understand how to source it, because very little of it has been published in impartial news sources. Some of it I gleaned from direct email conversations with him, and in other cases I would have to link to YouTube videos of him interacting with the people I mention, rather than print sources. If you feel as though you have the time and energy to guide me through the process of sourcing all of this properly, I would be grateful, because I do happen to know that it is all accurate, and I would be willing to do my best to substantiate it. The reason I have undertaken the work of trying to represent Spencer accurately by making reference to that material on his page is because I believe he is generally misrepresented in the readily available mainstream media. But I don’t really know where to begin if I am responsible to undertake the project of sourcing all this material accurately on my own. Please advise! Muhammad Lotusflower (talk) 19:08, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not permit your email conversations with Spencer to be used as sources as they would constitute original research. The Youtube videos are likely primary sources and should be used with caution, if at all. Wikipedia articles should generally reflect what reliable sources have said about a subject. If you believe that he is generally misrepresented in mainstream media, I would quickly read this section on righting great wrongs as the aim of your edits may be against the thrust of Wikipedia policy. Nevertheless, if you can find content that aligns with your views of Spencer and is published in a reliable source, you may add it to the article. Finally, although I'm not sure whether your relationship with Spencer is close enough to warrant any conflict of interest concerns, you may want to consider whether your relationship with him allows you to write about him dispassionately. Let me know if you have any more questions. Snuish (talk) 21:49, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
