Infobox univserity; Manual of style; Neutral point of view
[edit]Editors do not own articles, including ones they create, and should respect the work of their fellow contributors on Fareast International University. If you create or edit an article, remember that others are free to change its content.
(1) Yes, FIU is coed, as are about 98% of universities. It is also non-denominational, multi-racial, above sea level, and many other things. Unlike public/private or 2-year/4-year, coed is not a way people who write about the university commonly characterize it, so it is not something that belongs in the infobox. See, for example Dhaka University.
(2) Wikipedia's Manual of Style instructs editors not to use academic and professional titles or degrees (such as "Doctor", "Professor", or PhD) before or after names.
This may seem strange if you come from a culture where such titles are normally used. Fifty years ago in West Germany, for instance, one would never have referred to a male professor except by the almost militaristic "Herr Doktor Professor". The use of such titles is less common in Commonwealth countries (the Dictionary of National Biography, for example, avoids them), and is even more rare in the United States, where it would sound like sycophancy.
In any case, the English-language Wikipedia has adopted a standard of not using them. You can see the style in action at such articles as List of Nobel laureates by country and featured articles about universities, such as Duke University and Georgetown University.
(3) From the source of Template:Infobox university, one can see that the "nickname" field is shorthand for "athletics_nickname" or "sports_nickname". Template:Infobox university/doc explains the correct use of the field. For example, the athletic nickname for Princeton University is "Tigers". FIU is an initialism, not a nickname, and applies to the university as a whole. There is no evidence that FIU has a sports nickname.
(4) In the first sentence, the article's title should be displayed in bold. Any common abbreviation(s) should be in parentheses afterwards, and in bold, but the parentheses around them should not be bold. See MOS:BOLDSYN.
(5) Keep links as intuitive as possible. Write [[private university]]
, not [[Private university|private]] university
. See MOS:EGG.
(6) Wikipedia avoids unnecessary capitalization. Write "... debate, English language, indoor-games, cultural practices, ..." not "... Debate, English Language, Indoor-games, Cultural practices, ..." See MOS:CAPS.
(7) Write from a neutral point of view and in a formal encyclopedic tone. Avoid boosterism. Faculty members may not be characterized as "renowned" in Wikipedia's voice, nor should an encyclopedia article use phrases such as "maintaining academic excellence", "unwaveringly committed to ensuring quality education", "conducive academic environment", "excellent infrastructure", "prime location", "rich", "latest text books", "well equipped", or "students will get the opportunity to enjoy the campus life in the midst of natural beauties and modern facilities." Such preening language is inappropriate. It makes the university, its faculty, students, and alumni look amateurish and juvenile. See Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch, and Wikipedia:Avoid academic boosterism.
