Hi MsTania66, I saw your note at Talk:Gautama Buddha and have responded there. I also saw your addition at Amitābha. I liked your addition to the article about gender. I made some edits to it. I believe you meant "Shin Buddhism" rather than Zen. Shin Buddhism is the Japanese variant of Pure Land Buddhism which venerates Amitābha, who they call "Amida" and who is similar to Guanyin in China. It is complex because of the variations between the Buddhist traditions as they have played out in different countries: sometimes "Amitābha Buddha," sometimes a Bodhisattva. When I was in China, I saw a most beautiful female image of Guanyin. Within Tibetan Buddhism, she is Tārā, a Bodhisattva of compassion and action--the female aspect of Avalokitesvara (Chenrezig). Given the complexities and variations, we definitely need some reliable sources. I've started to search for some and have put a "citation needed" tag on your addition to the article. BTW, talk page comments are signed, additions to articles are not. Thanks for your addition. I hope you enjoy editing here. Sunray (talk) 22:40, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
