No. 2623 (East Anglian) Squadron RAF Regiment
[edit]I have removed the crests you uploaded to Commons because they're subject to Crown Copyright and must not be hosted on Wikimedia Commons for legal reasons. You could upload them here at the English Wikipedia but each image would then need a specific fair use rationale for any article it is used in. Please note that other articles on British forces may show crests from Commons but those were most likely created prior to 1961 and so they're not copyrighted. Your squadron's crest, the RAuxAF crest and the shoulder flash are too young though to be in the public domain. Regards, De728631 (talk) 23:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Please don't restore the crest image! As I said above, UK government art created after 1961 is not free. Should you re-upload any copyrighted files you may be blocked from editing. De728631 (talk) 19:11, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Your addition has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. De728631 (talk) 19:33, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
- Uploading a file directly to Wikipedia works just like on Commons. In the "toolbox" menu on the left sidebar you click "upload file" and then select the appropriate form according to the origin of the file. Your crest would probably need this upload link. There's also a detailed instruction what to do in terms of the fair use rationale which can be entered into the code template you get on the upload page. The most important parameters are the origin of the image, the article it is being used for and a reason why the usage qualifies as "fair use". Normally that is: "to illustrate the relevant article." Also important for the fair use rationale is the fact that there is no free image to replace the copyrighted one.
- And thank you for mentioning No. 2622 Squadron, their crest has also been a copyright violation so far (which nobody noticed). But since it is on Wikipedia only, one can probably fix it. Regards, De728631 (talk) 18:47, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
