GLAM/TNA
[edit]First of all - just a thank you for putting your head above the parapet, I know collaborating with Wikipedia doesn't always go down well. In case you're not watching that page, I've thrown some ideas in the air at Wikipedia talk:GLAM/TNA; hopefully some of them intersect with what you're trying to do. [edit]I have a first cut at a navigation template here. I posed some questions at Wikipedia talk:GLAM/TNA#Templates. - PKM (talk) 23:42, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

GLAM/TNA
[edit]Thanks for getting this one going! Thought I'd give you a heads-up, just to say I've publicised it a bit on the talk pages of people who might be interested - in case like me they hadn't see it start. Best, Dsp13 (talk) 20:31, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
File:Lt-General Sir Bernard Montgomery.jpg
[edit]Hello Mr. I. I'm aware of and very much support the GLAM work you're doing. But can I raise a licence question on File:Lt-General Sir Bernard Montgomery.jpg. How is HMG able to licence this under the Open Government Licence v1.0? My rudimentary understanding of copyright is that it's date of death plus 70 years. But I note UK_copyright#Authors_and_ownership_of_copyright which says "it should be noted that photographs, portraits and engravings which were commissioned and paid for prior to the 1988 Act coming into force have different rules governing the first ownership of copyright. In general, the copyright owners of such works is the person who commissioned and paid for them." Do we know this is the case for Monty's portrait? thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 21:02, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- That's excellent, thanks - and forgive the impertinance of my question. I'll try to keep an eye on the GLAM/TNA project lest I can be of any assistance. It's good to have you on board. I've added some of your comments to me, to the Commons File:Lt-General Sir Bernard Montgomery.jpg page. --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:31, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Africa Through a Lens
[edit]Hi. I'm uploading here photos from this National Archives UK collection on flickr. Do you have any advice for properly set the transfer? --M.casanova (talk) 17:39, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
- I updated this image description. Is it all right? (I also added Italian translation of Template:TNA-image on Commons) --M.casanova (talk) 05:52, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Many thanks. I uploaded about 770 images and I always added country category. --M.casanova (talk) 11:14, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Sorry to annoy you again. There is a deletion request here: "Copyright status unclear. Evidence that the file is released under under the Open Government Licence v1.0. with attribution to The National Archives UK must be provided". Can you help? Best regards. --M.casanova (talk) 13:28, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Would it be possible for someone at TNA to xsend information through COM:OTRS? Leutha (talk) 08:08, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Hello,
Thank you for your message on my talk page at Wikimedia Commons. Would a straightforward modification to http://www.flickr.com/photos/nationalarchives/collections/72157625827328771/ overcome your objection? A modification like adding a statement that all files in that series are also licensed under the Open Government Licence v1.0. with attribution to The National Archives UK would significantly weaken my objection. It would completely overcome it if some wording is also added below "Copies of Public Records in Crown Copyright" at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/legal/recordcopying.htm saying that applications for permission to use copies for publication (including website publication), exhibition or broadcast or any other purpose are not requested for contents that are specified by the National Archives as being licensed under the Open Government Licence, and that the Open Government License's terms apply instead. I hope in the future Flick will allow its users to select "OGL" in its licensing options. The National Archives should negociate with Flickr to have this. Teofilo talk 19:56, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi. If you send me the OTRS id, I'll update the TNA-Image template to remove deletion request. Thanks. --M.casanova (talk) 13:51, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- I updated the TNA-image template including OTRS id (as you can see here). Thanks. -- M.casanova (talk) 19:05, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Commons 'Creator' template
[edit]Greetings! I'm returning your phone call via a talk page message. The page you need to help you with the 'creator' template is at Template:Creator. I believe you need to copy the code in the Copy and paste section on Template:Creator into a new page. The new page should be at Creator:Harold Forster (for example). Then, fill in the various parameters - they're described in more detail at Template:Creator#Parameters. Finally, fill in the 'Artist' field with the text {{Creator:Harold Forster}} (again, for example). A more in-depth page is at Commons:Creator - don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions! Keep a list of those which have been uploaded by WMUK, and I'll add a 'Funded by WMUK' note to them at a later time. The Cavalry (Message me) 16:21, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

WWI Editathon
[edit]Hi,
Just to let you know we've finalised the list of academics who'll be attending the World War I editathon next month, along with their areas of specialisation. If any of these are topics you'd be particularly interested in collaborating on, or you want to suggest articles in those fields that need work, please do make a note on the page - it'd be great if we could have some suggested topics ready in advance.
Any questions, do let me know... Andrew Gray (talk) 13:49, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Mr Impossible,
- Following an initial suggestion on the World War I editathon page, there is now a discussion on my talk page about what could be done regarding articles on art and WWI.
- Are you interested and can you help on this topic? Whiteghost.ink (talk) 01:56, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
- Received your message and created a working page and asked a question. The conversation is kept together on my talk page. Cheers,Whiteghost.ink (talk) 04:16, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Chancellors of Court of First Fruits and Tenths?
[edit]Happened to look at the feedback on the Court of First Fruits and Tenths article. It looks like a class got set some homework last June - three requests for a list of officers within 48 hours! Even if they mean Chancellors it's maybe not the most essential thing ever but I had a bit of a look around online and couldn't find anything, was wondering if you had any ideas? It's one of those articles that I've had my eye on that never quite manages to rise up the "to do" list, I don't know much about it but it looks like it would be quite a fun one to work on some time.Le Deluge (talk) 18:52, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

[edit]You made Commons:Creator:Reginald Mount back in 2012; I have just written Reginald Mount. Do you happen to remember your source for his birth and death dates, please? [edit]Hi,
Fastily has gone ahead and deleted the logo at Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:The National Archives logo.png. If you can arrange an email to permissions-commonswikimedia.org, I would be happy to expedite undeletion and marking with an OTRS ticket.
By the way, long time no see. I hope to get a chance to have a chat at one of our events later in the year. --Fæ (talk) 23:56, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for July 2
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Putinisation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Martin Schultz. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:38, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs
[edit]Thank you for your recent articles, including Putinisation, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. National Archives
[edit]Hi Mr impossible, I dont think we have spoke before. How are you? I was wondering if you are able to get document out of the National Archives. I need the following [Sir 1106] for the Funkabwehr article. Thanks. scope_creep (talk) 13:14, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for organising the event at the National Archives today. I live quite close but it's my first time here and so I hope to get more familiar with its facilities as I expect it will be a great resource for Wikipedia work. Andrew D. (talk) 12:51, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
Nan Green
[edit]I plan to follow up the the various articles which we worked on. Getting the drafts into mainspace can be tricky when there's an existing redirect or stub. Please note that cut and paste moves are not best practise as they don't preserve the edit history and attribution. So, for example, a history merge is required for Nan Green now and I have tagged it with WP:G6 to get this done. Here's what that tag advises in its standard notification. Andrew D. (talk) 13:12, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give User:Liz FlettSmith/sandbox a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Nan Green. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Andrew D. (talk) 13:12, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Doh. And as you've seen I did the same thing at Lady Marion Chesham. At least I know not to do it again now. Thank you very much for keeping an eye on these. I knew I'd muck something up eventually. --Mr impossible (talk) 13:28, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Myself, I always try to start topics in article space rather than sandboxes or draft space because this then avoids the need for a move or merge. But it's naturally reasonable to start new editors in those spaces. Note that there's some discussion of the additional tools and facilities required by event organisers at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Event coordinator proposal. Your experience will be helpful there so feel free to comment. Andrew D. (talk) 13:39, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Joy Lewis
[edit]Hello, Mr impossible. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Joy Lewis".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 10:46, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

[edit]The National Archives IP
[edit]Mr impossible (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Caught by a colocation web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. My IP address is (redacted). This is an IP address used by The National Archives (UK). This problem has arisen before (in 2018, I think). because of the archives' use of Forcepoint to control outgoing web traffic. The block was reversed. Mr impossible (talk) 11:39, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Decline reason:
I can't reverse the block, the IP is actually under a vandalism hardblock on a smaller range that's not related to its use as a cloud services provider. However I have granted your account IP block exemption so that you can edit from the blocked address. I'll talk to the blocking admins about changing their block settings. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:13, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
