The parental care section refers more to issues of local adaptation than issues of parental care. The heading must be changed to reflect this. Alexander Mahmoud (talk) 00:43, 5 October 2017 (UTC) Pieris rapae section has no details about what mechanism or reason this other species has for removing the target species. If there are more details, including them would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alemah19 (talkcontribs) 00:47, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Peer-Review for Behavioral Ecology Class

[edit]

Overall, the article was very good! In the sections, a lot of the information was complete and detailed, and there was a consistent, neutral 3-rd person point of view. However, there are several ways to improve this article. Although the use of hyperlinks was very good, I still added several throughout the article, especially for words that I did not think an average reader on Wiki would immediately recognize and know the meaning (e.g. mustard plant, niche, dorsal/apical,etc.). In terms of capitalization, the standard way of writing section headings is in sentence case (the first word is capitalized and subsequent words are not capitalized unless they include a proper noun). I edited the section and subsection headings to reflect these guidelines. My other suggestions for how to improve this article also include being more specific and intentional in the placement of citations. There are some consecutive paragraphs (in the Enemies section) that do not include the citations until the very end; it may help readers better specify and match ideas to citations in case the reader wants to learn more.

In terms of content, I am not sure of the need for the Genetics section as it seems very technical and likely not useful for the average Wiki reader. Expanding this section or deleting it altogether may be an option. In the Social behavior section, the inclusion of the butterfly's population decline seems like it's in the wrong place; perhaps it would be better suited for a plant section or even conservation section. Even more, this section briefly mentions mating, but I think this section should be expanded to cover much more of mating, such as courtship, a specific type of mating system, or even, to connect to another one of the article's sections, the role of host plants in the mating process. For future edits, it may also be useful to add to the Enemies section a segment about what types of defense strategies these butterflies use to combat predation, such as wing morphology or certain behaviors. Lastly, I made small structure and grammatical edits here and there (such as missed commas and incorrect subject-verb agreement). Overall, a really good article! Good luck editing!
