[edit]Thank you for your recent contributions, such as Iodine movie. Getting started creating new articles on Wikipedia can be tricky, and you might like to try creating a draft version first, which you can then ask for feedback on if necessary, without the risk of speedy deletion. Do make sure you also read help available to you, including Your First Article and the Tutorial. You might also like to try the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version. Thank you. ... discospinster talk 21:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. However, I highly recommend you familiarise yourself with Wikipedia editing policies, especially WP:UNDUE and WP:COI. While Iodine movie may be related to the article Iodine, adding a link to it right at the start of the article in all bold is inappropriate, since (1) the subject matter of that article is the chemical element, iodine, not a movie; (2) it precedes the introductory paragraph, which may be construed to be an intent to advertise and promote, rather than to add value to the article; (3) bolding it only adds to this impression, especially since (4) you are the main author of Iodine movie. Instead, I would suggest taking the time to read through the article Iodine first, and then taking the time to find the most appropriate section in the text for mentioning Iodine movie. Adding the link with proper context and proper description (to indicate why it might be relevant to that article) will help dispel the impression that you're merely trying to promote your agenda. Thanks.—Tetracube (talk) 21:55, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Iodine movie has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.myspace.com/iodinemovie.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. wrongful edits
[edit]I'm sorry for the inappropriate edits made to the page but please keep in mind this is my first time using Wikipedia sites and had read that to re-direct a site it had to come in the first line of the page. My intentions were by no means strictly promotional but moreso to incorporate a well-rounded information source for those who are interested in Iodine and generate interest. The film itself is rooted in science and is about a physics professor so I did not see it as a far-fetched connection. I now see that bolding may come across as obnoxious, but as I'm sure you realize I am learning. I will read the suggested articles, thank you for bringing this to my attention.
Speedy deletion nomination of Iodine movie
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
A tag has been placed on Iodine movie, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.
If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}}
on the top of Iodine movie and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:34, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
The article Iodine movie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable film; few hits on Google, primarily promotional sites, brief synopses, imdb and this page. Nothing on Google News.
"non notable film
[edit]If this is actually a reason for deletion then I am somewhat shocked and appalled, isn't the purpose of an encyclopedia to engage learning and encourage a wealth of knowledge? I think it is unfair to delete a page, especially one that is clearly credited (though my sourcing needs work I admit, but hey! it's my first time and I am willing to change the content to be more suited), because it is not a "Hollywood blockbuster." This comment is elitist and insulting to those of us who find it stimulating to learn about projects that are not necessarily in mainstream media. I am %100 dedicated to understanding where I went wrong and improving the site but attacking a page for its few hits on Google news is lowly.
Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Iodine movie, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. wiooiw (talk) 00:37, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- You want to quickly put a {{hangon}} tag on the page so that it doesn't get speedy-deleted, but please don't delete the speedy-deletion tag. Doing so may be interpreted as bad faith (cf. WP:Good faith).
- For your reference, WP:NOTABLE explains what is/isn't notable on Wikipedia. Not all editors necessarily agree on the fine points of notability, but those are the general guidelines. Also note that many editors have a knee-jerk reaction toward overly-popular types of articles such as movie articles, that may not be of a general interest (except perhaps to a small number of dedicated fans). This may or may not be a good thing, depending on who you talk to. Furthermore, certain sites are regarded as unreliable sources due to lack of peer-review, being of questionable repute or quality, or otherwise unsuitable; anything on a blog or a personal website, for example, is usually regarded with suspicion. See WP:Reliable sources for the policy on this. (I know that's a lot of reading I've given you already... but since you seem genuinely interested to learn the rules, I think you wouldn't mind that.)—Tetracube (talk) 00:51, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Much of your grief could probably be alleviated if you would familiarize yourself with WP:First article, if you haven't already. If you're still having trouble, feel free to ask on my talk page at User talk:Tetracube. I'll try my best to help you understand why things are done a certain way here.—Tetracube (talk) 00:54, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you, I appreciate that you are patient and understanding. I will be sure to look into these subjects further and adjust accordingly.
About Iodine movie
[edit]I cleaned up that article a bit to follow Wikipedia conventions more closely; however, looking over it, I see that the main sources are IMDb and its Canadian equivalent, northernstars.ca. I'm not sure if these sources meet the WP:reliable sources requirements. And so far, the only reference that even comes close to possibly establishing notability is the Montreal review on the Gazette (and even then, it is only about a paragraph long). As I see it, you really want to be digging up more reliable references soon, otherwise I'm afraid the deletionists will be getting rid of the article.
In any case, do take a quick look over the general formatting fixes I've made to it, which illustrate the usual Wikipedia conventions for articles: an introductory paragraph or two, merge sections that are too short, inline references with {{reflist}}, using citation templates to give more uniform formatting, etc.. I don't claim to have done them all, but it's a start---you'd do well to follow this format in your next article.—Tetracube (talk) 17:43, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
The article Iodine (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not notable
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hairhorn (talk) 16:50, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
