From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is my personal litterbox. You may litter in here, but keep in mind it will be scooped daily. Anything you want to save for your personal collection may have to be retrieved from history, if I don't feel like having gigantic lumps of coagulated litter cluttering up the box. I am not responsible for mites you may pick up while here. St. Hermione is our patron saint. Touch not her pages or beware. Besmirch here at will. (Not, again, that I won't come and scoop)

Project of the month

[edit]

The project of the week is an archaeological dig for sock puppets. We are looking for any evidence of language, affiliations, warfare, artifacts of worship, cultural phobias, and the like, surrounding the ancient "metro" region of New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, with side trips to shrines elsewhere.

Do you use flea medication on your cats? ::looks around apprehensively:: Anyway, from my experience on VfD, cultural phobias of sockpuppets seem to include deletionists. Favorite method of waging war seems to be sending anons into the fray, armed with an inexhaustible supply of "Keep" votes. A good place to dig is WP:VFD. That must be their temple, or something. Anyway, have a good time digging and don't get that shovel dirty. Hermione1980 00:05, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

UPDATE Sockpuppets galore found in archaeological dig in Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Log/2005 June 16. Check out vote on Mathew Kenneally. It's a different community from the ones you've profiled below. Man, you'd think they'd grow up some time — or get annihilated. Cheers, Hermione1980 00:38, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Here beath (beith?) the records of the sock-puppet crime-family headed by the cappo di tutti cappi 209 , whose spawn have multiplied in the hot weather experienced recently by the NYC-N.J.-Atlantic Seaboard area.

A Sock-Puppet Family History

[edit]

The family: hereinafter referred to as 209, Spot, Coney, Toast, Shur, Melvis, Hoho and Toby

  • Not your average sock puppets, as few articles are created and then defended against deletion on VfD. An exception would be Edd Kalehoff. 209 creates a POV article about Roger Moss reeking with bile, uses his gang to augment and revert it when interrupted, and then proposes his own article for deletion when he realizes his jig is up, stalemated by Boothy et al. The full gang starts to emerge and vote prolifically on a certain range of subjects (see below), mostly to delete people "they" have "issues" with, and – likely personal history. They also engage in attempts to get rid of images and articles they view as rivals.

Family stats and habits

[edit]
  • Nom de plume/Date of Birth/No. of edits/#VfD

  • Statistics as of 15 June 2005
  • Nom de plume/Date of Birth/No. of edits/#VfD
  • The areas known to be frequented by the family:
    • VfD
    • Edd Kalehoff (and User: Ryan Prior re: E.K. article)
    • Roger Moss
    • NYC./N.J t.v.-news related articles
    • License plates – U.S. and Canada
    • Waffle irons
    • Trains – NYC metro area
    • NYC subways
    • Rail topics in general
    • Philadelphia
    • New Jersey
    • Queens (Coney Island, Junior’s, Jackie Gleason Bus Stop)
    • Boeing planes, aviation
    • Aspects of note:
  • 209 is obviously the original capo di tutti capi, but has now switched IPs as of July 05
  • Coney writes teeny tiny stubs prolifically, after 209 stops editing ca. June 1
  • All make teeny tiny edits when trying to build edit count up - recently, putting brackets around Pacific Ocean (I think for Auckland was one major contribution of the new number - User:203.98.57.97
  • Personal knowledge of tv people in NYC area and obscure facts about station histories
  • Only one comes out for subjects beyond scope of interest, maybe two for medium interest. But a maximum of six is possible, 3-4-5 is common, for territorial stuff
  • Stuff entity has never heard of only calls for one vote (Coney on the 12th apparently)
  • No one has an intelligent discussion with anyone about anything – everything is simplistic, black and white
  • Doesn’t read the articles being voted on if he doesn’t care about subjects – note vote timing of Coney on 12th - and it can’t be because he edits the whole page at once and then submits, as his previous votes have close but different times
  • Latches onto others’ views to bulk up his resume – see vote on Samuel Green and timing with other votes
  • Very unnecessarily uncharitable remarks on the part of all about subjects for deletion. Derisory to the point where it seems personal knowledge of the subjects must be a given. "Disgruntled ex-employee" comes to mind, particularly with regard to NYC-area television station subjects.
  • Silence of all for nearly 48 hours recently! (end of June)
  • Silence again for 2 days on VfD!!! Family gone to the mattresses? (end of June)
  • Coney and Spot take over around this time, after everyone else gets blocked

Language tics:

  • its for it’s
  • a historical preservationist
  • fondness for "!"
  • somewhat lacking in the ability to speak in whole sentences conveying an intelligent thought
  • actually, none of them can spell worth a lick

Special achievements in June 2005

[edit]

A classic article: (this, by Coney) Frank Field (Meteorologist) Dr. Frank Field is a well know televison personality and meteorologist who has been on TV for decades. His son is Storm Field who is also a meteorologist for WWOR-TV. I think he is a medical doctor, since I saw him do medical reports on TV.

An even more classic article - the now-deleted Anchor bimbo, in which - Spot? Coney? Scone? Spoctopus wrote, gave examples of real people to illustrate and had a photograph of Tracy Davidson, with her name across it, to further illustrate it.

An attempt at a revert/disambiguation/WP:POINT war on Roger Moss, yet again.

  • I removed the VfD tag, as adding it was nothing but a clear case of vandalism. Please close this vote now before more people waste their time here. Tupsharru 3 July 2005 19:51 (UTC)
  • comment it might be considered bad form to remove the VfD before letting the votes finish... I appreciate that it doesn't deserve deletion (my vote above reflects that), but in that case it will clearly get a Keep vote overall. There's no evidence the VfD was added maliciously as it stands... why not just let the vote run its course? UkPaolo 3 July 2005 20:08 (UTC)
  • It is one thing to defend the existence of an article on something obviously notable in the case of a nomination by an established user who just hadn't understood the significance of the topic (possibly because the article was badly written, which is often the case). But this nomination is vandalism by an anonymous user. This particular vandal apparently discovered that if he adds some garbage to a page, he will be reverted in a couple of minutes, but by adding a VfD tag and going though the trouble of setting up a vote, he can keep dozens of wikipedians occupied for days voting and debating his little prank. I see no reason why we should play according to those rules. Tupsharru 3 July 2005 20:28 (UTC)
  • fair point. UkPaolo 3 July 2005 21:26 (UTC)
  • Another possibility is that this is some established user who makes these silly nominations anonymously exactly to make the point that non-registered users shouldn't be allowed to make nominations on VfD. Personally, I don't need to be convinced of that. Tupsharru 4 July 2005 06:02 (UTC)

  • COMMENT What the above user calls "New York City-based tv news personalities and executives" are nationally known people who meet many of the WP:BIO criteria or are seen nationally on programs. If we use ErikNY's reasoning we should just ignore people like Peter Jennings and Roone Arledge would fall into that category. The broadcasts of the various New York televison stations are seen through much of the United States, the Carribean and Latin America, unlike Ms. Davidson, who is only seen in a very small area by comparison. Also, in the case of say Jim Vance or Sue Simmons who are pioneering African-American news anchors, so they would warrant entries, but Ms. Davidson a thirty something airhead blonde cookie cutter anchorette. She doesn't need one until she becomes more notable or moves on to a national broadcast. Spotteddogsdotorg 23:04, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

So my Delete vote still stands, now adding vanity into the mix. If you want to show your plates off, other than illustrating a point, get your own website. Spotteddogsdotorg 14:29, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

After an unprecedented family silence for a good two days, only broken by a brief bit by Spot, or was it Coney? (They are so hard to tell apart) Toast broke cover to re-engage over Roger Moss, apparently not recognizing a battle lost.

19 June 2005: Spot re-emerges after another two days of family silence, to make 1 (one) vote on the day's VfD's, and furthermore, actually appears to have read the article he votes on.
