Prior discussions

[edit]

Hi Moosalot, you seem to be under the impression that no one has given any serious thought to the issues you raise before. I suggest that among other places, you look through the archives of WP:LGBT. LadyofShalott 00:54, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You really are making an awful lot of fallacious assumptions about me. --Moosalot (talk) 00:56, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No assumptions at all really... I'm just replying to the comments you have made and making what seemed like a useful suggestion. LadyofShalott 00:59, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Caitlín R. Kiernan — "Red Delicious"

[edit]

You might get some flak from other editors over WP:CRYSTAL for adding an upcoming work, "Red Delicious", without a citation. I suggest adding a citation for this. Also I noticed there are two dates listed, probably just a cut&paste error. Cheers — Brianhe (talk) 20:24, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Caitlín R. Kiernan — Selmasaurus

[edit]

Re this edit, I have been unsuccessful in the past trying to connect Kiernan to Selmasaurus. There was a supposed citation from a DK book, but it didn't mention her and was removed from the bio article. Do you have a source, third party of course? — Brianhe (talk) 01:35, 29 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's still not clear how these are related — no citations given — so I undid your change. Hope that a good citation can still be made! — Brianhe (talk) 18:18, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The problem here is that Kiernan authored the paper in 1988 under her birth name, which she has never – to my knowledge – made public. It can be discovered by cross referencing her 2002 mosasaur biostratigraphy paper with the Selmasaurus paper. You can find the paper here. I've never actually linked the two here because a) I suspected it qualified as my original research and b) I always felt Kiernan would herself have made the name more explicitly public if she wanted it known. That second decision was made simply out respect. But that's the only way I know of confirming the fact that she is, in fact, the primary author on the Selmasaurus description. So, there's the problem with the citation. (Moosalot (talk))
I made the same connection, but I think Wikipedia is in a bind if a person doesn't want their prior name to be known. Maybe it's a question for village pump or the like? — Brianhe (talk) 22:18, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps. This is surely one of her more notable accomplishments, and it seems a shame not to include it. (Moosalot (talk))
Yet the biographies of living people guidelines exist for good reasons, including introduction of falsehoods large and small about religious figures, celebrities and even authors. I can't find all the links right now, but some folks have even suffered being reported dead by Wikipedia, which isn't too great. — Brianhe (talk) 04:36, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is true. (Moosalot (talk))

You might not have noticed but the name thing has come up again at Talk:Caitlín R. Kiernan#Birth name. — Brianhe (talk) 16:36, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Perdido, Alabama, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Michael McDowell (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
