And yes, Wiki is addictive. But it is rare to find something that is so fun and yet so contructive at the same time. Let me know if you need any help. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 01:52, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Just wanted to thank you for your work (mostly correcting my own misunderstandings) at Nur-Pashi Kulayev. Welcome to Wikipedia! Sherurcij 04:48, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Against Russophobia!

[edit]

Despite our disagreement on several issues of this article, I think we'll get along just fine. Please note that it was me who added both references that are currently in the article and it is not easy to find solid references on such a controvercial topic.

I would like to let you know about the existence of Russia portal and Ukraine portal at Wikipedia. Please take a look and see whether there is anything of interest to you at portals' "Things you can do" lists and their "New article announcement boards". Adding of latter to your watchlist is probably a good idea anyway. Cheers, --Irpen 02:35, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, there. Come check Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board. Or Portal:Ukraine/New article announcements and Portal:Ukraine/Ukraine-related Wikipedia notice board if you are more interested in Ukraine. You may want to add these boards to your watchlist. Happy edits, Ghirla | talk 10:10, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As a person responsible for Vasily Tatischev and for much of Rurik too, I'd like to preclude the reiteration of bitter conflicts that rocked this and related articles in the past, when I was accused of a militant anti-Normanist attitude. "Sources" forged in the 18th century to further someone's nationalist agenda are really not that helpful. --Ghirla | talk 10:07, 15 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]

First of all, thanks for the Nevsky Cathedral article. On another matter. Sorry for criticising you in public but your "email this user" link doesn't work, perhaps because you chose to not register an email with WIkipedia or didn't confirm it or whatever. Anyway, I hope you don't mind me commenting on the userboxes you posted recently to the bottom on your page. I don't care that they are not PC. However, they are rather polemical and have, IMO, no useful purpose, do they? We have a policy page Wikipedia:User page and, quoting from it What can I not have on my user page?:

"Examples of unrelated content include:
  • Personal statements that could be considered polemical, such as opinions on matters unrelated to Wikipedia

Certainly not universally agreeable statements about redrawing some international borders, that mean violating and/or restoring the territorial integrity of this or that country are rather polemical and there is no reason to unnecessarily annoy the editors who might be supporting exactly the opposite! Because article's disagreement by themselves often cause much annoyance and even bad blood, please consider whether we need to add more to it by potentially inflammatory userboxes. If some others do it, there is no reason to follow their examples.

Not that there is anything wrong with having and expressing one's opinions on such issues. It's just that there are less controversial ways and places to do it. What one thinks is a call for freedom, others have reasons to think is a call for partition. I hope you will take my criticism lightly whatever you choose to do. --Irpen 07:19, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What, do you mean you find moonshining offensive? Moonshiner 00:52, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am talking about the political userboxes, like "unite this", "divide that". Those kind of things. --Irpen 01:20, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moonshiner 23:17, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

--Irpen 23:30, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moonshiner 00:32, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I think your images are good but there is no point in deleting the old ones if we have enough space to show all of them. I restored the concluding sentence, deleted by inadvertence. Thanks for pointing this out to me. --Ghirla -трёп- 09:17, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Akhmad Kadyrov

[edit]

Здравствуйте! I should have gone to your userpage before I wrote the first comment on your nominaiton of Akhmad Kadyrov as an AfD. My apologies for the first-world centric remark. But now I'm really puzzled. Why would a Baltic Russian suggest a Russian General was unimportant? Or is this a pro-Chechna comment? На здоров’я Williamborg (Bill) 21:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bill. You seem to have confused Akhmad Kadyrov for Valery Baranov. In your contribution to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Valery Baranov you drew a comparison between Stonewall Jackson and the latter. Regardless of Baranov's and Jackson's relative merits, the difference between them is that Jackson has had almost 150 years to "settle" into history. I think that Valeriy Baranov being mentioned in the news a number of times recently is, given the other things I find unsatisfactory about the article, not enough to warrant an entry into an encyclopedia, for now. There is a Russian proverb that can be translated roughly as "time will put everything in its place," and I think it applies well here. Moonshiner 00:35, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ibn al-Khattab article mediation

[edit]

The mediation you requested has been started here concerning the aforementioned article. More details have been given on the article's talk page. Please respond there if you have any objections, queries or other suggestions. Thanks! Jsw663 19:20, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Moonshiner, although HanzoHattori has been more than keen to air his views about Ibn al-Khattab, you have merely said you were dissatisfied yet taken no steps to correct / point out what you disagree with. Unless you pursue your side, the mediation case will fall through because of case abandonment - 'lack of counter-evidence' basically. Jsw663 10:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!

[edit]
File:1953 S Novym Godom.jpg
Happy New Year! (Ukrainian: З Новим Роком!, Russian: С Новым Годом!). I wish you in 2007 to be spared of the real life troubles so that you will continue to care about Wikipedia. We will all make it a better encyclopedia! I also wish things here run smoothly enough to have our involvement in Wikipedia space at minimum, so that we can spend more time at Main. --Irpen

Hello, Moonshiner. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Latvian language rights protest.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Moonshiner. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. AfD nomination of Buza

[edit]

I have nominated Buza, an article you created, for deletion. Contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated. However, I do not feel that Buza satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and I have explain why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the open discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Buza and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Buza during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Nate1481( t/c) 09:46, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Latvian_language_rights_protest.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 14:04, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
