A quick FYI
[edit]Your edit at RNC 8 has been reverted, for two chief reasons. One is simply that it is unnecessarily wordy considering the rest of the sentence goes on to provide the context conveyed. The other, more important piece is that the individuals in question were not actually found guilty of more than misdemeanor charges, well short of having been legally identified as "terrorists". Referring to living persons by incendiary terms such as that is not acceptable unless it is merely a citation of an official source, such as if they had been found guilty of such charges specifically. In short, if they have not been objectively deemed such in the eyes of the law, such labels contravene WP:BLP (Biographies of Living Persons) policies. It is not Wikipedia's place to make personal armchair judgments. Wikipedia exists to summarize the information from existing sources, not provide users' personal assessments. Please let me know if I can clarify this any. - Vianello (Talk) 02:39, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
- Hi there, Momsagainstterrorists.
Just chiming in with some (I hope) useful links to Wikipedia policy and guidelines. Please see WP:Manual of Style/Words to watch#Contentious labels re the use of "terrorist" and similar words, and WP:Neutral point of view. --220 of Borg 04:14, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
I probably need to make myself a little clearer, in light of your edits to RNC Welcoming Committee. The above user's provided link is something you should definitely look at. But to put it more briefly: Being charged with a crime only means being accused of it and brought to trial over it. Being charged with "terrorism" does not mean someone has been legally found to be a terrorist. Wikipedia is not meant to be accused people of specific criminal actions for which they have not been found guilty in a court of law. The individuals in question were ultimately convicted of gross misdemeanor charges such as conspiracy to damage property, not terrorism, and for that reason, regardless of an editor's personal views on the matter, it is not appropriate to identify them with a term that is used to identify people who have committed a very specific type of crime that these individuals have not been found to have committed. I infer from your username, with all due respect, that you feel you have a message of some sort to get out by making these edits. Adding specific sources, like you later did on the RNC 8 page, is extremely helpful and very much appreciated. But Wikipedia is not for voicing our own opinions on what people should have been found guilty of in law. Please read WP:BLP and the links you were provided above for a more in-depth explanation. It would be great if you could help out with edits more like this one and less like this one. Thank you. - Vianello (Talk) 06:27, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
