Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I've noticed that you have been adding your signature to some of your article contributions, such as the edit you made to Helen Andelin. This is a simple mistake to make and is easy to correct. For future reference, the need to associate edits with users is taken care of by an article's edit history. Therefore, you should use your signature only when contributing to talk pages, the Village Pump, or other such discussion pages. For a better understanding of what distinguishes articles from these type of pages, please see What is an article?. Again, thank you for contributing, and enjoy your Wikipedia experience! Thank you. usernames

[edit]

Hi. Sorry for the inconvenience, but names that end with the string "-bot" are typically reserved for authorized bot accounts. I strongly suggest — although this is not an order — that you ask to have your username changed.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience. You're doing well in general; keep it up. DS (talk) 17:58, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there — this is the first time I've used the "talk" feature, so hopefully I will get it right. I am very reluctant to change my username — I've been "mofembot" since the sometime in the late 1980s (yes, I've been online for a long time, and was a listserv owner and admin back in the dawn of time; I even remember when the internet was arpanet and all). Anyway, I don't really have a good alternative online name to fall back on, either… so … I hope it won't create any problems if I keep my name (which pre-dates the bots, honestly!) If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Lynn Matthews Anderson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Hello, Mofembot. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Sue Booth-Forbes, for deletion because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references. If you don't want Sue Booth-Forbes to be deleted, please add a reference to the article.

If you don't understand this message, you can leave a note on my talk page.

Thanks,

tips for creating new pages

[edit]

Hi Mofembot,

I noticed that some pages of Mormon feminists you started were deleted. Often it's easier to make a page in your sandbox (there's a link at the top of the page next to "talk"). That way you can add citations at your leisure, and then when you're happy with the page, you can move it to the mainspace. I've made a few pages for women in the LDS church, and it can be frustrating because sometimes even if other Mofems would consider them notable there simply aren't enough sources for them to pass Wikipedia's notability guidelines. If you like I can help you determine if the people you'd like to make pages for are notable and what kinds of sources exist for them--just let me know :-). Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Mofembot, does not meet our username policy.
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 15:46, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see that this was discussed a few years ago and kind of withered; but it is true that usernames cannot end in 'bot' as that is reserved for authorized bot accounts. I would suggest simply rearranging your name might suffice("botmofem"). 331dot (talk) 15:49, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Upon some personal reflection, I would apologize for my hastiness and I have ended the block. I should have continued the discussion from earlier since you have used your username here for many years. I responded to a report at WP:UAA about this username. I would strongly advise you to consider changing it, perhaps as I advised above- but I will not make you do so. I do think you would save yourself some grief if you did, though. 331dot (talk) 16:09, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
