An article you recently created, Washington University Department of Physics, does not have enough sources and citations about the departmetn as written to remain published. It is extremely rare that we accept as notable an article on any department that is not truly world famous--one of the best known 3 or 4 in theworld. You need evidence that this department is of that stature, by having references providing substantial coverage about the department from third-party independent reliable sources, not just references about individual notable members. Many departments have many notable faculty and alumni, but very few are world famous. . I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Thanks for the advice - more citations are forthcoming! Also a question -- the level of importance that a department rises to seems inconsistent across Wikipedia. See for example Category:Physics departments in the United States, where both IIT and University of Houston have pages. Likewise with Category:Mathematical Institutes. Do highest stature in the region of interest (Missouri, Midwest U.S.) and historical stature not factor into article decision-making?

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve.
