Yeah, the latter of what Neutralhomer said. When a radio station takes on a new call sign, the way to make that change is to actually move the existing article to the new call sign. When you copy the text from the existing article, and just paste it into a new article at the new call sign, all that history at the original call sign is left behind.

So, I undid both sides of your edit but, before I moved the WRCW article to WLJY, I made sure to incorporate the changes you had made, as well as all the others that had been applied since.

Worth noting that, when you did your edit originally, you didn't fix the links in any of the list articles or the navboxes. So I've made those changes now as well. Mlaffs (talk) 05:16, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Well obviously that would be ideal, effectively changing the title of the article so that the edits can be preserved, but I don't think that an editor can do that without admin privileges so a move and a redirect seem the sensible way to do it.DavidFarmbrough (talk) 19:05, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

It's not about ideal or not ideal, though — it's simply not supposed to be done that way. The history has to be preserved unless there's a really, really good reason it can't be. See Moving_a_page#Page_histories. Any autoconfirmed editor like yourself can move a page; you don't need to be an admin.

The trick comes if there's already a redirect at the article name you want to land on, which I think was the case here. In that situation, you have a couple of options. Most commonly, you'd leave a note at Wikipedia:Requested moves and an admin would take care of it for you. Alternatively, you could move the article to a disambiguated title — WLJY (FM), in this case — and turn the redirect into a disambiguation page that includes the new article and the redirect target. Finally, particularly if you're looking at a radio or TV station, feel free to drop me a note here on my talk page, and I can take care of it for you. Hey Mlaffs, if you have a couple minutes, could you do an informal peer review on the WCLG (AM)‎ page, please? I am hoping to take it to GA. I am waiting on one picture from User:Bitmapped of the outside of the WCLG-AM/FM building, so I am doing this a little backwards.
