Oboni Cultural Society

Oboni, also known as Obon in Southern states and Okonko in Eastern states of Nigeria is a West African secret society in Nigeria practiced by the Ikwerre people of Rivers State. Oboni combines ekpe, Obon, Okonko and the ohafia war dance as one society. Initiates are introduced to each segment of oboni cultural society as they perform necessary rites and oaths of secrecy before attaining the ranks. This gives the member the right to greet oboni to signify what rank he has attained or face penalties.
