Status and Advice

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the above pages according to the criterion of being exclusively promotional, and not capable of being encyclopedic without being fundamentally rewritten.

It is possible, but by no means certain, that both the person and the teaching method might be subjects for acceptable articles, so let me explain how to do it:

First, A Wikipedia article needs to show notability with references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. The references for the two article are dubious--an article in the local paper may or may not show sufficient notability, and IMdB can be used for routine facts, but being in it does not indicate importance.

It also needs to be written like an encyclopedia article, not a press release--don't praise the organization or person, say what they do. Don't talk about the overall importance of the subject--talk about what they have accomplished. Don't give long descriptions of the technique. Don't advocate what it is important, include long quotations from the subject of the article, or refer to people by their first names, or repeat the name of the program in every paragraph. Don't include names of people who have taken the course. All of these are promotional devices, used in advertising and web pages, not encyclopedias Remember not to copy from a web site, even your own -- first it's a copyright violation, but, even if you own the copyright and are willing to give us permission according to WP:DCM, the tone will not be encyclopedic and the material will not be suitable.

Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to prospective clients--that sort of content is considered promotional. Don't include minor career events, past associates, or lists of non-notable productions. Keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive. The two articles not only repeated each other, but they themselves were repetitive, saying everything about the method many, many times over. I would aim at 2 or 3 paragraphs for each, with no repetition.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, do so, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity. Frankly, my final advice would be to wait until other people think you and the method important enough to want to write the articles.

The article Michael Gordin Shore has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unremarkable actor with a series of apparent bit parts. Previously deleted as promotional, due to hawking his "actor training system". Google search for "Michael Gordin Shore" along with the claimed quote of "One of Canada’s most appreciated acting teachers" shows no results.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
