Semi Langauges

[edit]

Hi Misha, I am doing a report on the linguisticethnicities of Europe, including the non-Indo-European ones such as the Uralic Family of langauges. Where did you obtain the source for your map of Sami languages in Scandanavia? - Indo Historian —Preceding comment was added at 19:57, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, actually it was already on wikipedia commons. I just altered it a bit: I made the municipality borders more accurate, added some new municipalities in Norway where Sámi has gotten official status, and removed one municipality that was erroneously featured a having Sámi as an official language. I do not know who entered the original map, but it is a fairly common picture of the "borders" between the Sámi languages. Any book or website dealing with Sámi languages will probably have a similar map showing the Sámi language regions. I've never seen any map highlighting the municipalities anywhere else than on Wiki, though.--Misha bb (talk) 09:16, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Big_Collage_Sami.JPG listed for deletion

[edit]

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Big_Collage_Sami.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Mangostar (talk) 21:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll delete the pic and come back with a collage that consists of pics that are UNDISPUTABLY free. If this means that two such central cultural figures as those depicted in #4 and #5 are not taken into the collage because of this, though... Well, I think it's quite a shame. But I don't want to spend time discussing this for eternity, so... --Misha bb (talk) 21:44, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Maplarge UArctic.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 21:32, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not accept permissions to host copyrighted images as these permissions don't extend to third parties. In order to use this image on Wikipedia, the copyright holder must agree to release it under a free content license (e.g. {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}). If the copyright holder agrees to release this image under a free license, simply forward the permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org and an OTRS volunteer will verify the release. There's a great guide to requesting such permission over at User:Videmus Omnia/Requesting free content. If the copyright holder does not agree to release this image under a free license, its use must accommodate Wikipedia's fair use guidelines. Sadly, it does not, as the map is considered replaceable. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, ˉˉanetode╦╩ 23:28, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. What are you trying to do with all these image pages you're creating? --Dynaflow babble 14:15, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Samedigginorgga.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Samedigginorgga.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:25, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article University of the Arctic Atlas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A search for references failed to find significant coverage in reliable sources to comply with notability requirements. This included web searches for news coverage, books, and journals, which can be seen from the following links:
University of the Arctic Atlasnews, books, scholar
Consequently, this article is about a subject that appears to lack sufficient notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia! In case you are not already aware, an article to which you have recently contributed, Politics of global warming, is on article probation. A detailed description of the terms of article probation may be found at Wikipedia:General sanctions/Climate change probation. Also note that the terms of some article probations extend to related articles and their associated talk pages.

The above is a templated message. Please accept it as a routine friendly notice, not as a claim that there is any problem with your edits. Thank you. -- TS 17:43, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish Sami municipalities

[edit]

Hello Misha ! On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Corrected_sami_map_4.PNG - what source(s) do you have for the municipalities on Swedish side ? Just curious.

best regards from Oyvind, also in Oslo

Hello Øyvind. There's an overview on http://minoritet.prod3.imcms.net/1015
Yes, I found the source there. Made an updated map to nn-wiki, as municipality no 18 in Sweden has joined the area.
Great!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Nordlie, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Madonna and Fritt Ord (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. License tagging for File:Sahkku itkonen.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sahkku itkonen.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 14:06, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Misha bb. If you're interested in continuing your wikirampage with an article on Að Elta Stelpur, e-mail me and I'll send you my paper on it. Not peer-reviewed, technically, but included in the Proceedings of the XIIIth Board Game Studies Colloquium (2010), so not completely shabby. Cheers. Hi! It've been thinking about doing so. As well as doing some cleanup work on Dablo. But now that the holidays are over, time is suddenly running short, and January is packed with work and travel. I'll have to stop the rampage for a while, but Ađ elta stelpur and Dablo are next on my list when I get time. I'll be happy to read the article, though! The only source I have for Ađ elta stelpur is Bell's book (or at least the parts of it available on Google Scholar).Misha bb (talk) 11:56, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Anders Larsen.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Anders Larsen.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. File source problem with File:Anders Larsen.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Anders Larsen.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Portal:University of the Arctic, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:University of the Arctic and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Portal:University of the Arctic during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Legacypac (talk) 16:57, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Portal:University of the Arctic requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section P2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a portal based on a topic for which there is no non-stub header article, and there are not at least three non-stub articles detailing subject matter that would be appropriate to discuss under the title of that portal.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:Sahkku itkonen.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sahkku itkonen.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
