Changes to Faramir Article

I posted my response in the talk page of the Faramir article, but I'll post it here again:

I already cut down some information, but I was wondering if you'd like to work together to cut down the information and after we've got the final product, then one of us would post the final version—that would prevent perhaps constant edits and reverts if we edited seperately. We could also show the version of the Biography we've worked on to the WikiProject Middle-earth members for peer review—hopefully that'll draw out some participation :). So, what do you say? That sounds dope enough. Although I don't know how it's going to be posted for peer review, so you're going to have to help me out with that. You know, you're probably right about the caption thing. Threw the pic back in. Not as much stuff needed to be taken out as I originaly thought. :| Here's something off topic that maybe you could answer me. How did Rohan know that they were going to be attacked by Saruman at that specific time? And how did Saruman know to attack Helm's Deep (or the Hornburg if that's what you want to call it)? Well if you do decide to do that essay don't put the whole thing on my talk page :p Yeah, the writers were too obsessed with character arcs (Faramir, Aragorn, Theoden, Treebeard, Elrond) that they failed to show who some of these characters truely were. But what I was most surprised was how much meaner they made "filmamir." Faramir ranks a close second to Gimli on my list of changed charecters I disliked. Ted 05:12, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Three things. First what does "G.A." stand for? (as in G.A. Standards) Second, I don't know how to get the Faramir article up to those standards (you mentioned this is the wikiproject Middle-earth) since I'm not an expert on him therefore the info is a little scattered for me. What do you think of the new Samwise Gamgee article? Do you think it is enough to remove from the list of articles needing expansion? Ted87 04:46, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree with CBD although for some charecters (Frodo, Gandalf, etc.) it is necessary to give longer plots surronding them since they are central to it and because their exploits arn't centered around just one of the books. Reach out Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience: "No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention." Stress Alerts The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them. Note from the editor Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!

The last AC meeting (full log) Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on. The online-offline-busy status changer should appear either in a panel under 'toolbox' in your left sidebar or a few buttons in your upper right-hand toolbar. Maedhros

I have question. How are you having the whole date format? Does that mean that for the War of Wrath, the date should be tweaked to Y.S. instead of F.A. (First Age). —Mirlen 00:39, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Mirlen. The War of Wrath article actually already uses 'Years of the Sun'. The distinction I was drawing in the Maedhros article was that the 587th 'Year of the Sun' is not the same thing as the 587th 'Year of the First Age'. The First Age actually began with the Awakening of the Elves at Cuivienen (or, in some versions, even further back at the creation of Arda). The first ~600 'Years of the Sun' were actually a tiny fraction at the very end of the First Age. The view that the First Age began with the creation of the Sun and Moon is very common, but not consistent with the books. --CBDunkerson 01:02, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for pelting from time to time with so many questions :P, but I was wondering if you knew whether the correct spelling would be to refer the House of Fëanor members. Is it Fëanorion, Fëanorean, or Fëanorian? —Mirlen 20:41, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

No worries. Tolkien consistently used "Fëanorian". 'Fëanorean' seems more natural to me and I sometimes use it mistakenly, but the '-ian' form appears in the LotR appendices and several other places. --CBDunkerson 20:49, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't really have a problem with it. It could be more concise, but I don't worry much about the stylistic issues. Only suggestion might be to cut down and/or merge the 'biography' sub-sections. Keep details about Faramir himself but reduce the information about what he did. Possibly move that info to The Two Towers to expand the chapter summaries there. That'd make one central location for plot rather than the same plot details appearing in Faramir, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Gollum, et cetera. --CBDunkerson 21:05, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

See Appendix E.II.i, "The Fëanorian Letters" and "Gildor (Inglorion)" in the index. Thus, "Fëanorian" and "Inglorion" are both 'correct' in that they were used by Tolkien. The '-ian' ending is an anglicization (i.e. in English '-ian', '-ien', and '-an' are used to indicate 'of'). Theoretically, one or more of the sons of Fëanor could have been given a name something like 'Maedhros Fëanorion'... but there isn't any reference to such. --CBDunkerson 20:27, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar Brigade The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date: "Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed.
