User talk:Minutiaman
Welcome!
Hello, Minutiaman, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! bd2412 T 20:37, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- What BD means your signature by typing 4 tidles. Tidles can usually be created by shift pressing the button next to 1 on the keyboard. You should also remember to use edit summaries every time you make any edit. Don't worry, as you have done nothing wrong, just remember to follow these tips in the future. Thanks, Prodego talk 21:11, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Really the template should say sign your posts on talk pages - a lot of what goes into articles is debated on the article talk page (especially for the more controversial articles). If you make a comment on a talk page about what information an article should contain, please sign that comment by adding four tildes (which will magically turn into your signature). No need to make a notice on the talk page for every edit that you make in an article, tho! Cheers! bd2412 T 21:14, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Helpme
[edit]Hi! How can we help you? You can ask here and place the {{helpme}} template at the end so we know to check back. Or you can join us online, in the #wikipedia-bootcamp channel on the freenode network.--Commander Keane 21:13, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure what you mean about {{helpme}}. If you have a question just ask on my talk page.--Commander Keane 21:23, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- I undid it for you. In the future, if you make a mistake you need to undo, you can use the steps explained WP:REVERT. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck! Prodego talk 21:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- All but (I believe) three people are volunteers, who contribute to make this encyclopedia grow. There a various things that people may be interested in doing, from writing articles, to expanding them, to reverting vandalism, to maintaining order. There is no special software, anyone can edit, although some of the people who create pictures and graphics may use special software to do so, this software is not related to Wikipedia. For more information, you can look at WP:ABOUT, which should explain the concept to you. I hope you do decide to stay and edit, but even if you don't I wish you well. Let me know if you have any more questions, Prodego talk 21:40, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
You should sign your posts to talk pages mainly to make the page easier to read, any time anyone edits an article their change is logged in the page history, which is accessible by clicking the history tab at the top of any page. Reverting will stop most vandalism, and there is no way for an average user to fully destroy an article, indeed not even an administrator can do that. Some vandals move pages as vandalism, which is undone in a different way. You may just want to browse Help:Contents, as it is filled with useful information about every aspect of Wikipedia. another new editor
[edit]Hi, Minutiaman, I just joined today, too. I saw your message on Prodego's page. I probably can't help you much because I don't know anything either. But when I learn I'll let you know. There seems to be some good people here like Prodego and others who are more than willing to help newcomers. Good luck with your editing. Twasmetrec 22:00, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Note from a former CCHS Centaur
[edit]Hey Corey, I graduated from CCHS last year and found you through editing the school's page. I was just entertaining thoughts of expanding it and I also wanted to ask you how you made those graphics appear on your page (such as that stating your ancestry) since I currently have no idea how and my page is blank. Thanks. P.S. I'd prefer that you respond on my talk page so that I know I'll see it.
- For more information on the boxes (userboxes), the Wikipedia:Userboxes pages should help. I myself havn't made any userboxes myself (the ones on my page are premade), but that page has a little guide on how to make them. - Corey Kawamoto 23:36, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. I don't plan to create any user boxes, just use premade ones. If you can tell me quickly how to do that I'd appreciate it, but otherwise I'll learn myself.
- I could tell you how, but this would probably be more aesthetically helpful. The templates can be found on the links in my first message, or if you scroll up on the part I just listed. - Corey Kawamoto 23:45, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi There
[edit]Hi, it's Pokey2006. Thanks for your message on my user talk page. What questions would you like to ask? Please email them to pokey2006 at gmail dot com. (Trying to avoid spam) Pokey2006 03:34, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
Tehran U expulsions
[edit]We can mention them of course. maybe under a section called "current events" or something like that.
But it's not the first time. When I was in TU back in the early-mid 90s, they once forcibly retired 13 faculty members of the Physics department alone.
It's happened b4.--Zereshk 05:57, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Answers to questions
[edit]Hello, welcome aboard! I'm on vacation with intermittent access to wireless, so let me apologize in advance for not being able to answer well, and suggest perhaps you contact User:John Broughton. (Also, see "tools, counter" on my own user page. Good luck. I'll be back in a week... -- Sholom 14:37, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Editcounter
[edit]There are tools availible to count thr number of edits you have, the best being . However due to recent changes in the way the English Wikipedia works, it is no longer up to dates. I use the backup tool, which has less features, but is accurate. Note you need to use Mozilla Firefox to use the tool, but as Firefox is free, and has many other advantages, you should get it if you don't currently use it. Here is your editcount summary from the backup tool:

Help!
[edit]How do I list the info for U.S. senators below that for U.S. cabinent secretaries in the same box? The person in question is Spencer Abraham. I want to create his title as former senator of Michigan below his secretary of energy title. Minutiaman 20:04, 9 August 2006 (UTC) I would also like to know whether previous government high office holders (department secretaries, governors, senators, etc.) may or should have an infobox at the top of the page, or if they should be reserved for the present person of the position. Minutiaman 20:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi there. The template on the Spencer Abraham article is preformatted, so it doesn't offer a slot for previous offices. The folks at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Computing might be able to offer advice for creating a new template
- As for previous office holders, you can absolutely put an infobox on the page. Happy editing to you! Teke 20:14, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi again -- did you check Template talk:Infobox yet? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:58, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Just wanted to check back in and say: good job with your edits! I hope the link I passed along was enough help for you. Keep up the good work! -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 21:49, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
George W. Bush's second term as President of the United States
[edit]Good Work! I have been hoping someone would tackle that article since I created. I wrote most of the first term article and just haven't had time to tackle this one. I will read over what you've done when I have a chance. Again, great work! Thanks! --The_stuart 22:50, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
US Secretary of Transportation
[edit]Re: your edit here - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=United_States_Secretary_of_Transportation&curid=45559&diff=74095492&oldid=74083708; is she officially the 15th secretary even though the nomination is pending? Thanks! Weirdoactor 16:04, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Response to your comment on my talk page:
Cool. I didn't even notice that the "15" was italicized. You're also correct that the nomination isn't pending, as it is official now. Thanks! Also; maybe instead of "acesnsion", we could use the phrase "pending confirmation"? Weirdoactor 17:52, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Joan Embery has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this person might not be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (people) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.
If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the "prod" template, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod template, the article will not be deleted, but if an editor is still not satisfied that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Minutiaman! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 265 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
