Unity08 Interest?
[edit]Hi! You're one of about a dozen wikipedians who have edited Unity08 (which puts you in pretty rarified company :-)) and it occured to me that you might be interested in something in that vein. I don't want to clutter up your talk page but I wanted to let you know about my user page being used to talk about the intersection of wikis and the Unity Movement. Sorry to be a bother, but "a dozen out of hundreds of millions" seemed like a small enough group to think there might be some common interests :-)

[edit]As for me, I oppose advertising in Wikipedia. :)--Jimbo Wales 18:56, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
There is a good reason for not allowing ads. Lets use credit as an example. A credit card ad goes on the Main Page. X goes to the credit article. NPOV can no longer be maintained because by allowing an ad we endorse what the ad offers Geo. 23:23, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Unspecified source for Image:Zarqawi-large.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Zarqawi-large.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:06, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Jason Leopold.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Jason Leopold.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2007, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 13:17, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:Cnn.svg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Cnn.svg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:30, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Beijing National Stadium.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Beijing National Stadium.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ++aviper2k7++ 20:42, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

A template you created, Template:InfoboxEnd, has been marked for deletion as a deprecated and orphaned template. If, after 14 days, there has been no objection, the template will be deleted. If you wish to object to its deletion, please list your objection here and feel free to remove the {{deprecated}} tag from the template. If you feel the deletion is appropriate, no further action is necessary. Thanks for your attention. --MZMcBride 00:43, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Wikimania 2008/Conference of the Americas
[edit]Hello, As you may or may not know, Alexandria, Egypt was selected to host Wikimania 2008 [1]. So as to prevent the hard work of the many Wikimedians involved in the Atlanta bid from going to waste, we have decided to host a conference for the Americas. This is in no way an attempt to compete with Wikimania or make a statement against Wikimania.
As one of the people signed up to help with the Wikimania Atlanta bid, we hope you will join us at the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas. We will be having a meeting tonight in IRC tonight (Oct 15) at 9:30PM in #cota-atlanta on irc.freenode.org to discuss the conference. For more information about IRC see [2].
For more information about the Wikimedia Conference of the Americas see http://www.cota-atlanta.org and our wiki http://www.cota-atlanta.org/wiki.
If you do not wish to receive further notices about the COTA please remove your name from our notify list. --Cspurrier 20:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Better source request for Image:Cnn.svg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Cnn.svg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Super Tuesday maps
[edit]Hello. Thank you for your map contribution to the Super Tuesday and Super Tuesday (2008) articles. While we appreciate your hard work on the image, I have replaced it with the original map as that image is more tightly focused on the Super Tuesday contest itself. If your interest is in creating maps that show events across a time series, the United States presidential primary article does not have any images. --Kralizec! (talk) 18:05, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Or perhaps you could improve on either of the maps I just created for Republican Party (United States) presidential primaries, 2008 and Democratic Party (United States) presidential primaries, 2008. I found it ... challenging to create a concise way of showing the various election date blocks, especially since the Democratic and Republican contests are so divergent. --Kralizec! File copyright problem with File:Screen shot 2010-06-11 at 12.32.52 AM.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Screen shot 2010-06-11 at 12.32.52 AM.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Image Screening Bot (talk) 04:58, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Advice
[edit]Hi. I am a new editor who chose my first Wikipedia project as Callaway Golf. That page is incredibly outdated, incomplete and in many instances incorrect. The logo is just one example. I tried to fix it, and have been highly unsuccessful; nearly all my contributions have been reverted. I am learning about the Wikipedia process, citations, neutrality, etc., and I know I have done some things incorrectly, but I cannot get any help in updating the page from editors who say they have an interest in the page, but refuse to correct things that are clearly outdated or incorrect. When I make changes, the editors threaten to block or ban me. In my attempts, I used the Apple Inc. page format as a guide, as it seems to be a very well-organized page and a good example of a comprehensive page. I am new at this; do you have any advice or suggestions? Thanks. Two For Mirth (talk) 03:45, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
