Barnstar

Hey, thanks a lot for the barnstar!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Funny enough, I thought that "grat" was short for "gratuitous", especially considering that I had to look up full spelling of that word myself :)—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 00:10, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

FIS images

Hey, I was just about to do your thing, but I cannot find any images on the events. I'm sure if I googled it, I'd find some, but it makes more sense to have a gallery I can pluck images from because atleast I'd know their source. Anyway, if you can point me directly to an image repository, that'd be great. Jaredtalk22:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

That's actually a pay-per-photo deal, where you have to regester and then pay to download them. I wish somewhere out there there'd be just a gallery of pictures, like what NBC Olympics did for the 2006 Winter games. Jaredtalk20:03, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but what is your basis for accusing this editor of vandalism? This user has received a barnstar for fighting vandalism. Unless you can provide diffs to back up your statement, please don't make unfounded accusations. Walton Vivat Regina! 15:08, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Gunnar Eriksson / Harald Eriksson

Hello, I just read the article about Gunnar Eriksson, where you state that he sometimes is listed as Harald Eriksson. These are separate persons. Sweden did have two (unrelated) cross-country skiers competing at the same time, both named Eriksson. They both competed in the 1948 games in St Moritz, and both won medals. Harald was born September 22 1921, whereas Gunnar was born March 1 the same year. See e.g. here (Harald) and here (Gunnar).

If you have sources supporting that there is only one Gunnar/Harald, please let me know.

User page for speedy deletion?

OK, I'm telling you, indeed it is an in-joke :) It's full of citation needed, POV dispute, stub and incomplete list tags, and it has a Wikipedia humor category. I couldn't make it more obvious! :D TodorBozhinov 17:32, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Bruce Haslingden, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. - Tiswas(t/c) 23:40, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

The speedy tag has been removed and replaced with AfD- Tiswas(t/c) 00:18, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem. I know how it feels to have an article worked extensively upon nominated for deletion. Nice to meet you. --Cremepuff222 (talk, review me!) 20:27, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Glad I could help. Thanks for notifying me of the outcome. I have been so busy with my own RFA this weekend, I forgot to check up on the outcome. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 20:29, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Well, I really think that there is a bar in WP:BIO and this guy passed it. All those who argued delete should really toddle off to WP:BIO and try getting the bar raised.Garrie 00:43, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm glad to see that the article survived. At the very least, it has served to bring into question some of the peripheral guidlines regarding sportspersons. I still have reservations, however. It seems to me, that Bruce's notability stems not from his de facto appearance as an Olympian (which seems to be sufficiently notable for some editors), but that he must have achieved a degree of relative aptitude to merit inclusion in the Australian Olympic squad. The only measure that we have of this are the Perisher field trials, and the cited article itself refers to the criteria for inclusion being that he 'qualified' (quotes as per article). What level of achievement to Bruce actually exceed in order to become an Olympian? Is notability satisfied by just being in the right place? - Tiswas(t/c) 10:11, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
No problem, glad to see it survived the AFD, I forgot to check the outcome. I didn't think it was in danger. If Olympians are notable, then there is a problem with the system. --Cyrus Andiron 19:45, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Reference for death

Hi, thanks for the note re: a link for Haslingden's death, I'm trying to source an online reference but no luck yet, hopefully something will turn up later today. I was reading The Australian newspaper this morning and saw the name which reminded me of the recent AfD! I've added the offline reference, but I'll keep an eye out for an online source, at which time I'll add this to Deaths in 2007 and 2007 in Australia. --Canley 23:35, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for finding and adding the online link! --Canley 00:47, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Olympics WP membership

Hello. Some time ago you removed your name from the Olympics WikiProject membership list; however you still have the userbox which ties you to the project. I'm updating/cleaning the members list so I'm removing the project's userbox from userpages who are not members. I've voted on an AfD about an article you made, so I see you still work on Olympics-related pages. Don't you wish to become a member again? Just wanted to know. Wikipe-tan rank changed

FYI. I just changed your Wikipe-tan from Lt. Cdr. to Cdr. rank. The reason I did this is a Lt. Cdr. has a gold oak leaf while a Cdr. has a silver oak leaf in their ranking and the Wikipe-tan rank on her shoulders looks more like a Cdr. than a Lt. Cdr. Chris 18:42, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Cortina track

Hi. I don't know about the track details but I am pretty certain that the scenes in Cortina in For Your Eyes Only were shot in January - February 1981. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1993

Hi there

You have reverted my changes twice, claiming that the FIS database is incorrect. Now I do know that the database has same flaws because lately I've been editing dozens of alpine skiers on the German wikipedia and encountered a few mistakes. What makes you believe that there weren't two gold medal winners in the pursuit? Do you have access to official results besides the FIS website? I found this site covering the alpine championships. Do you know something similar for the nordic events? --Voyager 21:37, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

I already know the two sites you mentioned, but I don't really trust them either. What we really need is information from official reports or similar sources (newspaper archives for example). I guess the "other user" you mentioned is User:Stavol2. What makes you believe he has the correct information? --Voyager 16:49, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Chinese American Food Society, by SoldierOfColbert (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Chinese American Food Society fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

takes search results from American Chinese Food

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Chinese American Food Society, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 01:42, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Now that this article has been moved to AfD, I need to caution you to please indicate your keep !vote only once. You're free to make additional comments, but please preface them with comment instead. Thanks. AKRadecki 16:27, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

FIS ski 1993

Hi Chris. Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been logged on for a while. I could refer to the book, but would it help in this case? I don't know what it would take to convince the user "Voyager" that Dæhlie and Smirnov was separated by a photo finish. What sources does he have which says otherwise? He mentions some FIS database being incorrect in this case.. At least these links are correct: http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/610.html?sector=CC&raceid=342 http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/613.html?sector=CC&competitorid=57203&sort=&type=result&limit=80

This is a quite recent event, anyone who watched it on TV can confirm it, so it feels a bit frustrating to spend time on this.

http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/sport/ol2006/langrenn/article1234153.ece This links to a norwegian newspaper. Smirnov says: "I'll never forget you beat me with 16 cm"

We'll stay in touchStavol2 15:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

<<I have just mailed FIS pointing out the error, also refering to their page with the correct info. They have to see that they are actually contradicting themselves in this case. My hopes, though, are not too high. Getting through to organizations like that is difficult. I would be surprised if I get any response.Stavol2 14:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Editing

Hi Chris. Sorry to bother you, but I don't know who else to ask. You have given me some good advices previously. If you look at this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Figure_Skating_Championships you will see that the medalists for Ice Dance are not possible to edit. It seems like that particular list is fetched from somewhere else in Wikipedia. This seems peculiar, it should be listed along with the other lists, shouldn't it? Do you know what might have happened here? Thank you. Stavol2 12:04, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Now I managed to edit the template directly. Strange why it was set up like this, but perhaps better to leave it as it is. Thanks again for your help.Stavol2 13:52, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Re:Thanks

Oh, not at all, Chris. Actually, I only read the debate and closed it as "keep" because it should be the right outcome :) It's you who did all the work on improving the article. You've done great! Have a beautiful day, PeaceNT 03:00, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: NHRA UBX cat

The fans themselves are categorized in Category:Wikipedians who like the National Hot Rod Association. I added the "nocat" option so that non-userpages don't get put in as well, which adds clutter and could be confusing when the category grows. –Pomte 22:06, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

First names

Would it be possible to create articles with complete first name? Like for S. Graber. TIA Pavel Vozenilek 21:06, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, so the reasoning that he is from the State of Illinois is that he lived here while going to college? That doesn't really tell me that he is from this state. To me, he is from China and New Brunswick, New Jersey, but not Illinois. I still do not feel he should be in the category People from Illinois. Did he live here for many years? Where did he live? What city or better yet, county?--Kranar drogin 01:50, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I am going to change his article cat then to Champaign County. I am trying to clean up the Illinois People to be more specific. Since you feel strongly that he is from this state, I will keep it. You may want to edit the article to include the other information that you have been giving me. Going over the article a couple of times now, and I still would have done the same thing. Thanks though for cleaing it up with me.--Kranar drogin 01:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Please do not re-post another low-quality goose image to the Canada Goose article. If the article requires further illustration, Commons has many higher quality images to choose from. Normally I don't post negative critiques of other's photos, but you insisted on re-adding the image, so I figure you might need a message that's a bit more blunt. Rklawton 01:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Camera phones

Sorry, I'm not familiar with camera phones. The digital photography crowd considers them to be a "gateway drug". That, is they get people hooked on digital photography so they feel the irresistible urge to go out and buy more expensive cameras. Right now, I'm dreaming about a Canon EOS 1D Mark III (after Canon gets the auto-focus bugs worked out). It lists for about $4,500. Rklawton 01:45, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

New articles

This is a trivial request, but could you use a more informative edit summary when creating new articles? On both new page patrol and in the history of the article, "created" is pretty obvious from context. Perhaps "Czechoslovakian luger"? I keep clicking thru only to find a nicely formatted stub, but if I picked up on the pattern of lugers, I'd skip over them. Not a big deal of course, just a thought. NickelShoe (Talk) 15:13, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I wasn't criticizing your use of Czechoslovakian (it seems historically accurate), I meant you could use that as your edit summary, so I'd see "luger" and know the article was probably okay without clicking thru and reading it. No big deal. NickelShoe (Talk) 00:55, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
