To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

Please remember to:

• Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
• Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.

James Barry (surgeon)

Hi Milkfriend, and welcome. Thanks for your contribution to categories at James Barry (surgeon). Unfortunately, I had to undo it. The question of whether someone who lived in the 18th century can be categorized as trans is not simple, and has been discussed before numerous times at the article Talk page.

Each article page at Wikipedia has a corresponding "Talk page". So, for example, the Talk page for the James Barry article is called Talk:James Barry (surgeon). If you go to that page, you will see that there is discussion of trans issues going back to 2007, and continuing right up to last month. So you can't really just go change something in the article on your own like this, without paying attention to the discussions that came before.

You're welcome, by the way, to add to previous discussions on the talk page there, or to create a new discussion of your own, if you have something new to bring to bear on the subject. To do that, go to the article, click the "Talk" tab upper left, then find the link "Click here to start a new topic", and click it. (There are other ways to do it, but that's probably the easiest.)

Don't worry too much if some of your first edits here get undone. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but go ahead and be bold, make your changes, and even if they don't all stick, you'll learn as you go. I hope you like it here, and decide to stay.
