Your granddad's story

[edit]

Hi there - I wanted to write to you about the material you added to the Lindbergh kidnapping article (here [1]). Unfortunately, Wikipedia articles can't make use of direct personal recollections such as this (even if it came straight from the tape of you grandfather speaking) -- articles pretty much only summarize material already published in reliable sources (such as historical books on the crime). Therefore I have -- with great regret -- removed it from the article. But I've posted here [2] a request that other editors help you find a researcher on the case who might be able to make use of the material. EEng 01:38, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some additional thoughts:
  • I think it might be a good idea for you to post over at Talk:Lindbergh_kidnapping, indicating that you would indeed welcome assistance as mentioned above.
  • It could take literally YEARS for the right person to come along. You might consider doing two things:
    • Go to Special:Preferences and chek the "Allow other users to email me"
    • Go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo and check the boxes so that you'll get an email when someone edits a page on your watchlist (which, I assume, is only the Lindbergh kidnapping page and its talk page) or edits your talk page.
  • I see that Columbia University Press has recently published Little Lindy Is Kidnapped: How the Media Covered the Crime of the Century. C.U.P. being a highly reputable academic publisher, the author (Thomas Doherty) might be worth contacting.
Good luck! EEng 06:49, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
