Flemish Movement
[edit]Hello Michiel...I am frankly not sure which queen this factoid was about. I do , however support it's inclusion, somewhere, rather than deleting it. It is an example of the alienation that led to or strengthened the Movement. It needs to find a place somewhere in the article rather than the scrapheap.--Buster7 (talk) 14:14, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I disagree about the relevancy of the factoid (although I'd like to think that the Flemish movement is defined by more than just petty grievances), but I simply couldn't find a proper place for it in the article, and it was glaringly out of place in the section about the Interbellum. There is a section about the present day in the article, but in only pertains to the current situation regarding the linguistic border (which, again, seems of only tangential relevance in an article about a movement, and can surely be better discussed in other places on Wikipedia), and a new section on the current state of Flemish emancipation (which I considered starting) would again have to be much broader than a mere discussion of what Queens speak which languages. Ultimately, being a Dutchie with only a cursory interest in Belgian politics, writing a section with such a scope is not a task suited to me. I hope this clears up the reason why I removed the sentence rather than placing it in another section. Michiel Buddingh' (talk) 14:33, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you Michiel. I also approach the article and related topics (re:the Low Countries Region.)with care. The sentence was not mine. I am working at improving the entries of the IP that is also working on tne article. When I re-draft, I try to stay as close to the meaning and intent of the other editor...Wether or not the entry is actually fact, is up to the "other" editor...in this case, I believe the other editor is a "newbie". I am very sure you and I are in agreement and will continue in our combined efforts to create a quality article. I am a Flemish-American, having lived in the U.S. since the mid-1950's. So, I am also, distant from the workings within Belgium. I must be careful that my editing reflects the Flemish Movement and not MY POV about the Flemish language and Culture. Nice to meet you--Buster7 (talk) 14:06, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
