Hey everyone... leave me a message at the beep. I do my best to answer quickly.
PlayStation 3
[edit]Hi. Thanks for your recent edits to PlayStation 3, however I have reverted the latest one. Please bear in mind that Wikipedia is not a manual or user guide and should not feature that level of intricate detail. Also, you should cite your additions from reliable sources to confirm their accuracy. Could you please do this for the model numbers that you added to the table? Thanks again for your contributions. ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 15:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah..should have done that before. fixing now.Mfm44 (talk) 15:53, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Question for you... what level of technical detail do you see as appropriate? A fair number of users would be interested in that sort of info.Mfm44 (talk) 15:58, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Basically, Wikipedia guidelines state that articles should not assume that the reader has any prior knowledge of the subject. It also says that articles should not include intricate detail that would only be of interest to very tecnical readers. I think (remember, all of this is just my opinion and interpretation of the guidelines) that the majority of people would not know (without carrying out further research) what the processor size means and would not find it very useful. Obviously, there's no rule that says "don't include processor sizes in articles about game consoles" but it's just up to the editors/contributors to use their own judgement. I'll try and find some links to the relevent guidelines and post them here if you like? ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 16:14, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, that's clear enough for me. So, in this case you think it's too technical? I would submit that it's something more and more people would come to wikipedia to look up. I would even say that things like average wattage/draw/poweruse would be something a lot of people would be interested in knowing. Mfm44 (talk) 16:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- I thought that about the power use when it was first added but I think with the current concerns with regard to energy use, it might be of use to more people.ChimpanzeeUK - User | Talk | Contribs 17:16, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, power use is directly implied by silicon process...it's even called out below the table in the article. Having said that, the lay reader will not understand the connection. We could always add both?Mfm44 (talk) 17:21, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- To be honest, I'm no expert when it comes to the inner-workings of electronics. You're probably right. If you have a source for the power consumption of each model (or something similar that would be easy to understand) I think that would be useful and worth adding. If I were you, I'd be bold and go ahead and add it to the table. Or at least suggest it on the talk page to open this discussion up to the other editors. Orphaned non-free image File:41Q8GSF74NL. SL500 AA240 .jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:41Q8GSF74NL. SL500 AA240 .jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:18, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
