Mehmet Murat İldan

[edit]

An article about id:Pembicaraan:Mehmet Murat İldan / Mehmet Murat İldan is not relevant to readers in languages that he has not been translated into. And the english article is obviously lying about his reputation, as it foresees how his reputation will be in the future. Please note the intro statement "Following his epistolary novel, en:The First Sorrows of Young Werther, he is regarded as a romantic writer", when the book in question is due to be published in february this year. This is indeed prophetic skills by the article's author. When the article also states that this unpublished «The First Sorrows of Young Werther» is his magnum opus, we an easily assume that this author is not notable, yet. --en:Orland 07:56, 24 January 2007 (UTC) --no:Orland 24. jan 2007 kl. 10:57 (CET)[reply]

Picture of the Week

[edit]
A picture that you uploaded entitled Museum Nasional Indonesia.jpg has been selected as Picture of the Week on the Portal Indonesia for the Week 9, 2007. Thank you for your contribution to promote images of Indonesia.

Indon (reply) — 11:59, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geen dank. Als je meer beelden vanuit Indonesie hebt, kan je alsjeblieft aan mij vertellen. (hehe sorry lagi belajar bhs belanda, betulin klo salah ya). BTW, I found beautiful images from Indonesian Wikipedia, as in id:Istana Bogor, but I think they have some license problems to be uploaded into Commons. — Indon (reply) — 10:58, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Raam Punjabi.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Raam Punjabi.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 01:16, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Raam Punjabi

[edit]

Thank you for your message, but why do you think that this image fails to meet the fair use criterion? Meursault2004 04:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As Mr. Punjabi is a living healthy person, not incarcerated nor otherwise absent from public life, it's possible for someone to take a picture of him and release it under a free licensing. According to the English language Wikipedia's policy, we should only use unfree material when it's not possible to create a free alternative. Note that, even if we don't have a free replacement right now, we can't use the replaceable image. Item 8 of Wikipedia:Fair use#Counterexamples deals exactly with this case. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 16:55, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Meursault! I'm TechnoFaye and I'm writing this because you had a perfectly good image you uploaded marked for deletion by Abu Bidali. You should know that he does this because he thinks it's funny; he even says so on his user page. More then 20 other editors just like us are parties to several formal complaints to Wikipedia in an effort to have him banned permanently for doing just what he did to you. Others have described him on the record as a "hoodlum" and a "vandal". My testimony was that "Bidali would be just as happy breaking antennas off cars at night". After he is gone, we can repair the damage he has done to WP. If you haven't already, please consider adding your name to the lists at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_Who_Endorse_This_Summary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary:_2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary:_4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Other_users_who_endorse_this_summary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary

Pic requests

[edit]

Hi Meursault, how are you? Are you still in Indonesia? Do you know any wikipedian living in Bandung? There is so little Wikipedia compatible (GFDL or CC licensed) pictures for Bandung, even outside Wikimedia, such as Flickr. If there is somebody there who can take pictures, or even if you want to taste Siomay or Yoghurt Cisangkuy or Sate Kambing Pak Karjan, hehehe, I'd like to requests some pictures of it. Thanks in advance. — Indon (reply) — 14:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

Revo, it's been a long time since Wikimania 2005! Hope you are doing well, and I was wondering if you might be able to help with the project over at Meta to profile different Wikipedias. The page created here is a template: m:Indonesian_Wikipedia, and you can see what some of the other filled in ones look like here: m:Category:Wikipedia history, with the German and Polish ones especially good. Hope you can find some time to fill it in so we can learn more about the id: community. Cheers! -- Fuzheado | Talk 12:10, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New collaboration...

Hello everybody. I’ve updated the current Indonesia collaboration to > > > Central Java < < <

This article’s not in a very good condition but such a significant part of Indonesia, the cultural heart of the Javanese. Please contribute! Thanks to all those contributed to the previous collaboration Sidoarjo mud flow particularly Indon.

The next collaboration...

For the next collaboration in a fortnight, I’d like to try something different. Let’s chose a stub rather than an already well-developed article. Here is a list of Indonesian stubs to choose (there’s two pages). Please check the article's importance rating – let's chose an important and significant article that will appeal to a broad range of people. Please do not choose an obscure and/or esoteric topic that is not very important. Please place your nomination here.

Any questions, please let me know. Kind regards --Merbabu 05:02, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mersault, I'd say it is fine to include info from any source, as long as it is well-sourced. IMO, it is fine it is fine to cite Indonesian language sources if an equivalent can't be easily found in English. The problem I have with transalting from WP ID is that so much seems to be unsourced. kind regards Merbabu 09:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tell you what: let's look at what info is in the id article, and see if we can find the sources. Probably not that hard for most of the things. :) I would be great to see you more involved here at WP EN on the Indonesia articles. Merbabu 09:46, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good to see

[edit]

Your name in the contribs again! I just had a friend check out - visit and photograph - Bantul and Imogiri on Saturday. I must get back to some questions again soon! SatuSuro 01:29, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My ignorance is showing - but isnt the Solo River 'Bengawan Solo'? SatuSuro 07:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cannot get over seeeing so much activity from you! It is reassuring that you have been 'around' WP en - and on a WP Indonesia project article - we are indeed privileged! SatuSuro 14:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
bisa besok, atau nanti :) SatuSuro 14:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tourism - aaarrgh the 'obyek pariwiasta' comes to haunt me again - visit Indonesia year 19xx - the year of xxxx - I think I must create an article about that I have all the publications from those years.... SatuSuro 14:28, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK by the weekend I should have something. I will look -SatuSuro 14:32, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Too many projects too many distractions - I shall have to move that further away in time

Another topic - . Do you have any idea of why/how the protestant/catholic mix occured upon Sulawesi at all? there is a question at Indon's talk page where I used your name - please free to chastise me for suggesting you! SatuSuro 14:29, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Central Java talkpage

[edit]

I didn't notice it was erased. I guess the assessment script has a bug. Thanks for bringing back. — Indon (reply) — 07:43, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my English is not so good, but Merbabu will take place on checking it. Yes, Matahari Pagi is an Indonesian. She comes from Kalimantan and she is a good editor here. (please don't ask her to migrate to indonesian wiki, ya? hehehe :-). — Indon (reply) — 08:03, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I saw the publications at id. Some Indo-wikipedians are now celebrities there. Can you also please advertise WP:INA project somehow during talks in Indonesian schools/universities that they can also join the English version of Indonesia articles? It's good for them to try to learn writing English as I'm doing it right now. :-) Well, getting somebody's comments, for instance, once an editor said to me sarcastically that my English is non-standard, is a part of learning here. — Indon (reply) — 09:21, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dont believe him - his english is much better than he says :) - as for insulting editors - wikipedia has a few :( SatuSuro 14:30, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Catholicism in Indonesia...

[edit]

hi Mersault. I've been watching your work on this article - very nice indeed (as it was on Central Java). I notice you added three general references - excellent. A few questions:

  • Does information in the article actually come from these articles? If not, perhaps we had better term them 'Further reading'.
  • If info does directly come out of these, how hard would it be to actually add some in-line citations? Do you know which parts come from which text and page numbers etc? If you do, it would be valuable to actually make the in-line citations. Don't worry about the format, i can fix that up for you.

kind regards --Merbabu 00:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re citations, just use the form <ref>citation info</ref> within the text. It seems you've been doing it anyway. :-) --Merbabu 00:39, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the Week

Contact

[edit]

Hello,

A journalist from Polish TV station wanted to contact you, due to your activity with writing articles about Polish cities in Basa Java Wikipedia. (For example: http://jv.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bielawa&oldid=21729). Please drop me an E-mail if you are interested in contact with this journalist. He is simply curious why a person living in Indonesia is interested in writing articles about small Polish cities :-). My E-mail: polimerek at gmail com.

Indonesia collaboration => Jakarta

[edit]

This fortnight's Indonesia project collaboration is > > > Jakarta < < <. As a nominator for this article, it would be great to see you contribute. Also, please visit the nomination page for next week's collab. It is strongly preferred that an underdeveloped article is nominated, or even a stub, rather than something already of high quality. Any questions, please let me know. thanks and happy editing --Merbabu 11:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there Meursault2004/archive-2007, this fortnight's Indonesia project collaboration is > > > Jakarta < < <. Please contribute. The most important thing is to find reliable references for all existing information, and for any new info added.

Also, please help nominate an article for the next collaboration at the collab nomination page. An underdeveloped or stub article is preferred over a long and developed article. Please nominate up to two articles. any questions, please let me know. Kind regards and happy editing. --Merbabu 11:40, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would be great to see another big contribution from you as we saw in Central Java, Catholicism in Indonesia, and other articles. How about replacing some of the old photos? --Merbabu 01:29, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika

[edit]

Someone is questioning the origins of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika on Talk:Indonesia. Is this something you could provide some insight into? Caniago 11:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Meursault :-) Caniago 10:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wish more sources could've been found but, oh well. I was just trying to prove what almost every Javanese person I asked said - that it's Sanskrit. Given what is available, I have no choice but to assume they are either right or wrong, and I have no way to prove if they are right. I'm not really into Old Javanese - I can barely speak any modern Javanese! :) I was approaching it from the above perspective. I'll leave it to you to delve through those materials. I'm trying to find my niche on Wikipedia so I can make contributions that are NOT my original research. :( I didn't know Dr. Robson or Dr. van der Molen until this month! :) I apologize if my commentary was intrusive or annoying. ReveurGAM (talk) 06:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still a novice, so I don't know about pinging. I don't usually have much time to do things here. Thank you for the info you added on my talk page - can you mention it in the discussion, too? If you do happen to find more sources that support that it is OJ and not S, that would probably be a good thing to add to the motto's page so future debates can be averted. ;) Best of luck with your PhD!ReveurGAM (talk) 10:22, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Canals

[edit]

Did I ever tell you about the Kota Gede canals? just saw your plaosan article (the remaining buddha statues at plaosan are the best central javanese ones imho) SatuSuro 13:12, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that not one historical text/source/ or secondary material has ever acknowledged or identified the use of canals in Kota Gede - however one female archaeologist at ugm (with anu connections) - more or less proved that Pasar Gede used to have canals at some point in its history!
