Offensive term
[edit]Hello there, I have just removed an offensive term, ass from you user page. For further understanding, you may review Wikipedia:UP#NOT. Thank you--NAHID 15:37, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: use of "ass". After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Wikipedia administrators usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- You can keep your contributions history under a new username. Visit Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the guidelines there.
Thank you. Daniel Case (talk) 15:47, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Daniel - I don't mean to offend. It's the name (not quite - Metal up Your Ass of a Metallica album. I didn't reailse it would be a troublesome name as theres already an article called that. I love that album. I usually call myself Metalintheass online.
One real-life parallel, from that article, is this:
However, the record company would not accept this name and Cliff Burton changed the name to Kill 'Em All.
Let me know what you think!Metalintheass (talk) 15:51, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I know that's a would-have-been Metallica album title (they made up T-shorts). For that reason it could be acceptable, however I alone can't make that decision. Do you think we could start a username Request for Comment on it? That way the community can decide. Daniel Case (talk) 13:14, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
Daniel, I am up for this. But I am concerned there are a lot of haters on wikipedia. Someone said I didn't count as having an opinion on Metallica just because I am a fan of them. I am prepared to put my metal ass up for the jury however - I still believe that the true metal will shine through!!
No, seriously, I am up for a vote by jury. As they say in Aliens "It's the only way to be sure". Although in that case they are talking about taking off and bombing the whole space colony from above. It's the only way to be sure! Metalintheass (talk) 13:07, 23 June 2008 (UTC) Also note there is someone below who finds it amusing!
Sorry!
[edit]Hi "Metalintheass",
Sorry for that error on my part. However that addition to the article had to be removed because of Wikpedia's NPOV (Neutral Point of View) policy. Your view that Biltong was "chewier and strechier" is your opinion. Because Wikipedia is viewed by millions all around the world, we have to make sure that we don't have sections in articles that are biased as this could offend people.
Enjoy editing Wikipedia!

P.S. Just wanted to point out that your Username could be offensive - I personally find it amusing - but Wikipedia policy may not allow your Username. If you so choose, have a look at the guidelines here.
Welcome!
