Congratulations, you deleted article on one of the most infamous of the Bosnia camps

I hope you are proud of yourself. --HanzoHattori 20:11, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Disregard the above, seems to have been resolved. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yelloone (talkcontribs) 00:17, 31 January 2007

No, not. I'm VERY angered, since I spent my time digging up articles on the camp and the trials (which were a crime-against-humanity conviction). --HanzoHattori 00:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check the deletion log of the article before attacking random people.

So, why the article sent me here when I checked? --HanzoHattori 00:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How can you find the deletion log when you can't find the article? How is it possible for people delete an article on an important matter like this without leaving a clear signpost for objections? I can't find the article to find out what's happened. --Opbeith 07:33, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Log/delete and type in the name of the article. – Chacor 08:55, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks --Opbeith 14:26, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I deleted an article called Foča rape camp that was a redirect to an empty article. The article Foča camp consisted of only "See also" and External Links, making it subject to speedy deletion per WP:CSD#A3 ("No content whatsoever. Any article consisting only of links elsewhere (including hyperlinks, category tags and 'see also' sections), a rephrasing of the title, and/or attempts to correspond with the person or group named by its title. This does not include disambiguation pages."). So, neither Mike 7 nor I deleted an article about a Bosnian camp, we deleted redirects and empty pages per the criteria set forth in WP:CSD. Please remember to assume good faith and be civil when addressing these kinds of concerns. I'm more than happy to help editors contribute to the project, but I'm much more likely to address concerns that aren't attacks. -- Merope 14:30, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know about "no content whatsoever", you've just described the basic information that HanzoHattori had entered in setting up the article and he and I have both been working on material to put there. There's a lot and it's a matter of working how to shape it first. One of the reasons why I haven't got further is because of the attack on the content of the Srebrenica Massacre article that you seem quite happy with. I'll accept you're right about rules but perhaps it would have been reasonable to consult the person who set up the article before deleting it. I quite understand why HH is upset. I share his annoyance at the enforcement of "correct behaviour" that is ultimately aimed at the denial of some very incorrect reality. The enforcement of rules is not always objective or benign. The indictment at http://www.un.org/icty/indictment/english/foc-ii960626e.htm gives an idea of how a chief of police administered the law in Foca. --Opbeith 15:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article did not have content--there was nothing in the article to explain what the Foca camp was. I have restored the article to HanzoHattori's userspace at User:HanzoHattori/Foča camp so that you two can work on it. I'm sure Mike would have gladly restored the article as well had someone just asked him to do so. I'm not trying to supress information; I have no agenda; I just go around cleaning up the encyclopedia. An article must have enough content and context to be expanded by other users, otherwise there's a chance that the article will never be developed. That's why we delete articles under A1 and A3. At any rate, please let me know if either of you need assistance in developing the article. I'd be happy to help you with wikification or formatting. Once the article has some context, you can move it back to the mainspace. I apologize for not addressing this sooner. -- Merope 15:15, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your helpful response. I'm afraid tempers get a bit short as a result of the repeated fire-fighting that goes on at Srebrenica Massacre and other Bosnian conflict related articles. I'm afraid over the years (not just here at Wikipedia) I've become a lot less patient than I used to be when engaging in dialogue with apparently innocent outsiders who then turn out to be part of the assault brigade. So I'm very sorry if I over-reacted to your intervention and hopefully HH and I can manage to edit down some proper content in the near future.
In fact the article probably ought to be retitled Foca rape camps (plural). Foca was the paradigm of rape being used as a weapon of war and ethnic cleansing. Another example is described at the Vilina Vlas article.
Thanks too for the offer of help - I'm a bit of a blunderer, I'm afraid. --Opbeith 15:50, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another Question

Hey Merope, another question for you. At Talk:CHAK 104 NB, the user has placed the information from the deleted (for notability) article on the talk page. Surely the info can't exist there either, can it? But... what should I do about it? I mean, I have never put a speedy tag on a talk page, but don't think the info should exist there. Also, didn't want to delete the text... Thanks for your help.... Philippe Beaudette 06:12, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That talk page appears to have been deleted administratively.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 18:22, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, on advice from Merope and others, we hit it with db-talk. Philippe Beaudette 00:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, let's assume that it was deleted administratively after {{db-talk}} was applied to it. I now realize that I could have imputed that {{db-talk}} had been applied from the log comment "content reposted on talk page" here, but I didn't know how to do that when I previously replied above. I now assume that this article was a (poor) attempt to document the "Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Hameed Naveed Educational Academy" named "Chak No. 104 NB Sargodha" ("CHAK 104 NB" for short) in honor of "Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Hameed Naveed M.A. M.ed.BA Bed (S.S.T)".   — Jeff G. Answerbag - why delete? It's notable!

I posted this before, but never got a response:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Merope/Archive6#Deletion_of_.22Answerbag.22

I saw that you deleted the article for "Answerbag" (formerly located at "Answerbag.com") for not being "notable", and as the founder of that site, I would like to object. Answerbag is a serious site that has been around for almost four years, and it is the #2 social Q&A site next to Yahoo Answers: http://weblogs.hitwise.com/leeann-prescott/2006/12/yahoo_answers_captures_96_of_q.html. Cnet ranked our site as being equal with Yahoo Answers: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-9239_7-6634568-1.html. MIT's Tech Review thought we were notable enough to be in their Top Social Q&A sites review: http://www.technologyreview.com/InfoTech/17932/. We've been covered on TechCrunch: http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/09/07/answerbag-bets-the-farm-on-widgets-and-an-api/. How is this not notable?

It meets the notability guidelines of "The company or corporation has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company or corporation itself.", and "The company or corporation is listed on ranking indices of important companies produced by well-known and independent publications."

And last but not least, there multiple Wikipedia articles that actually cite Answerbag as a source. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-eye_flight http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celebratory_gunfire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dei_Gratia_Regina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_Heel

Please let me know.

Guess who?

Congratulations, I've finally been sucked into your nefarious Web. ;) The Collins article is so bad that it's been marked "non-notable," so I'm taking it upon myself to spruce it up. First question: how do I edit the title of the article? The "edit this page" tab didn't appear to provide that option. Thanks!

Deletion of the Article "Angelo Tsakos".

Dear Merope,

After deleting the article "Angelo Tsakos" the reason for deletion was given to be that the article "did not indicate how or why the subject is notable". The second sentence of the article stated that "His death is famously popularised by the "Cops Killed Tsakos" graffiti displays." The cops killed Tsakos graffiti displays were indeed notable. They were prolific throughout Sydney for more than a decade and are still mentioned to this day.

I was in the process of completing the related article "Cops Killed Tsakos" when the "Angelo Tsakos" article was deleted. If there was any doubt to the notibility of Angelo Tsakos the "Cops Killed Tsakos" would ensure that it was eliminated. Perhaps without the completion of the, linked "Cops Killed Tsakos", article the notability of Angelo Tsakos may be perceived to be unverified. However, the now-completed "Cops Killed Tsakos" article will re-enforce, for those who do not know, the significance of Angelo Tsakos, not to mention his death.

Angelo Tsakos died in controversial circumstances that garnered extensive media coverage. Many claim he was a victim of police brutatlity. To have possibly been killed illegally, by police, also makes Angelo Tsakos a "notable" subject.

Angelo Tsakos & his death have also influenced artistic culture. In the "Cops Killed Tsakos" article you will find an external link to one of two songs that has been recorded about the death of Angelo Tsakos. There is also a link to an art exhibit that was inspired by the death of Angelo Tsakos. This sculpture's description "notably" defines the prominence that the death of "Angelo Tsakos" held within the Greek-Australian community.

Your parting comment was "Please also remember that Wikipedia is not a memorial" which contained a link. On the page that the comment was linked to it states "Wikipedia is not the place to honor departed friends and relatives." Please rest assured that I was neither a friend nor relative of Angelo Tsakos. As a matter of fact, I never knew him, only of him. This is just another example that Angelo Tsakos was a "notable" subject &, therefore, the article titled after him should be restored, prferably as hastily as it was deleted.

Thankyou for your time.

Moved over from my talk page. The current version includes media references that were missing in the original version. I have to admit, I'd like to see it allowed just because of the topic, so I'm not completely unbiased. Is there enough here to establish notability? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 00:37, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not that you asked me, but I'm not shy with my opinion - if you could scrounge up at least one more (non-student) resource, ie, other newspaper article, I think that would help establish it. The guideline is several non-trivial sources, I believe, and unfortunately student newspapers tend to be viewed as less than a full source, so... anything you can do to establish it with further non-trivial sources would be helpful. Deletion of Chanhassen High School (and Protection)

I acknowledge that the original article was a complete hoax. The site referenced in the original article was created and is maintained by current students at Chaska High School. These disgruntled students oppose the policies of the district. However, an actual Chanhassen High School is under construction right now. Eventually a real article needs to reside at Chanhassen High School to reflect that it does actually exist (Opening for the 2008-2009 school year I believe). How this will occur is beyond me, but I'm bringing it to your attention now. - Mtekk 17:54, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Straw poll on Srebrenica massacre

As a result of persistent edit warring on Srebrenica massacre, I have proposed that a straw poll be taken regarding one of the issues involved—namely, how to title the section currently named "Alternative views". This will help us to determine whether there is a consensus on what to title this section, or at least a consensus on what not to call it. The straw poll can be found at Talk:Srebrenica_massacre#Straw poll on "Alternative views" section. I have posted this announcement to each of the 19 users who have made multiple edits to Srebrenica massacre this year. —Psychonaut 13:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was not necessary for you to be so rude in your put down message. Life would be a lot more pleasant if we could all be a tad more polite to each other. Pigeon Man

Hello, this is a friend of the creator of the Pigeon Man series. Aaron himself asked me to create this page for that people with little understanding toward Pigeon Man could get an inside view on what it actually is. I know some of what I said to begin with was relatively incoherent, but I just wanted to throw in some background information. Aside from that, this would be my first time creating a page on Wikipedia.com, so I may not be familiar with the deleting/editing/creating laws of Wikidpedia.com. So I create this Pigeon Man page to inform all of the producer's friends, and their familes about what Pigeon Man is. If you could hold off any deletion, or any other form of editing that, it would be highly appreciated. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by WinglyKingLloyd (talkcontribs) 18:32, 19 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Recent Law Clinic Comment

You have commented that the Law Clinic is not notable enough in itself. This may because i have not had time to put on the full page which will become much more lenghty.

The Clinic is a completely new way of providing access to justice for those in the community. The Clinic has numerous links with variious different bodies and is considered to be considerably pioneering and has the potential to revolutionise the way legal education is provided in Scotland (and in together with others in England) the whole of the UK.

It should be noted that whilst the clinic operates from the University Law School and with University funding, it is very seperate in its operation and i feel a seperate page would be more fitting of this description

It is a considerably valuable benefit to the community and i hope you will feel it valuable enough for a page unto itself.

I am happy for the name of the page to be changed to something less generic - i.e. Strathclyde Law Clinic as opposed to the Law Clinic.

Thanks for the advice. I didnt know you could do that on your own page firstly - im relatively new to the site. Thanks for the help - ill do that in the future.

Question

When an editor makes personal attacks on the talk page of an article is it ok to simply delete those comments if they server no purpose other than to attack the character of another editor? Look here and here for two such examples that don't seem to offer anything other than a brief attempt at character assassination. I'm not asking you to intervene, I'm simply looking for some policy guidance. Cheers! Mr Christopher

I read where deleting hostile comments on the talk pages is a debated subject, so in the meantime I have asked this editor to refrain from making any more personal attacks[4]. We'll see. Mr Christopher 22:17, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Railpage Australia

A different problem this time. An anonymous editor has been adding negative information about a living person to Railpage Australia. Another editor and I have reverted the information a total of four times now, and asked him to discuss it first and reminded him of policies. In return, the editor has told us to not remove the material [6], [7], [8], [9], and said that we could be blocked for doing so. A word from an administrator may prove more effective. It might also be useful to check to see if the editor and user:Tezza1 are one and the same, as if so, he has already reverted five times. Philip J. Rayment 12:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Artomatic is a legit Nonprofit 501c3 in DC and there's no wiki info about it. I posted an article and it was deleted. I understand the need to be clear about what's spam and what isn't, but this is a group that puts on an event that 50,000+ people move through and deserves some attention. What can we do different to get some information up on wikipedia about these guys. If it's a conflict issue, I'm with a different organization artdc.org, and I'd like to see more info available on the net about these guys.
