Your draft article, Draft:Stavatti Aerospace

[edit]

Hello, MerlinVtwelve. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Stavatti Aerospace".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Nikkimaria (talk) 01:10, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like Stavatti has dropped out of a major government program (USAF TX Trainer) so I reckon go ahead and delete the draft. Cheers merlinVtwelve (talk) 01:23, 12 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Hello MerlinVtwelve -- I'm not sure it was you who submitted this for consideration but if you are still around further expansion would be useful -- it would be particularly helpful to have a date of birth, as an adult at the end of WW2 could easily still be alive. Merging all/some of these short overlapping bios together would be an option. Espresso Addict (talk) 03:50, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Espresso Addict, thanks that's great. Yes, this is a bit of a tricky one, because some members of Five United went on later in life to become quite notable architects individually, whereas others seemed to fade from view. As a solution, maybe Five United should have its own page, with all the the five members merged together. Although I think at least one or two of them would be notable enough to have pages in their own right, separate from that page. I am on a long Wiki Break at the moment, but if no one has looked at this in the meantime, I will give it some attention when I get back. Cheers merlinVtwelve (talk) 09:41, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Think think

[edit]

Thanks for your attention, that was careless. I'd like to contribute more, but I dont quite get how WP works. Wouldnt you reocmmend to delete the line altogether? It may be the Economist, but it doesnt make any sense at all. As it stands, I dont think that would be a standard WP should strive to adhere to.EnTerbury (talk) 06:20, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi EnTerbury, the general guideline is that any assertion made in Wikipedia is supported by a WP:reliable source. It is probably best to do some homework on this, and read Wikipedia guidelines. I have removed the line from the article for the time being. Cheers merlinVtwelve (talk) 10:42, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oneness Temple - broken ref

[edit]

Hi, I’m learning about refs. I accidentally broke a ref on the article Oneness Temple. Is it possible to revert the article back to your last version? Dharmadha2 (talk) 17:37, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I've fixed it, and deleted the auto-generated one instead of the original 'full' one. The auto-generated ones were probably created using Reflinks which is a handy tool. If you want to check it out, it's here. There are a whole lot of other citation tools at this page, though frankly I'm still learning about those. merlinVtwelve (talk) 19:40, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

From Dr.Khatmando

[edit]

Hi MV12,

I apologise it’s been so long since we touched base or have made any contributions. I had been putting my efforts into the work the editorial board with WM foundations Wikijournal of Medicine as well, but my health declined and I haven’t had the capacity to contribute much. What is ironic is that I made more contributions when I was undergoing radiation therapy than when my health improved for a while. Despite all this I thought I’d send you this short message of encouragement. I’ve looked over those articles we worked on some years ago, and they’ve stood the test of time and had some minor improvements. I guess that when we start or expand an article with attention to scholarly rigour, it’s easier for others to put some spit-n-polish on them to further improve the quality of the articles. I was supposed to return to Japan to make a documentary with CBC Nagoya just before COVID, but many of these projects are now on hold. One of those documentaries (a smaller project), was on Japanese architecture. I’m receiving some support at home to help with some mobility impairments, but I hope that after COVID, I will be able to return to those projects as well as recommence contributing to some Japan related articles and to assist my colleagues on the Wikimedicine journal. I have fond memories of our work together and hope all is well with you and yours, and despite the times you’re getting some satisfaction from contributing to WP articles. All the best my friend. Warmest regards, (Dr. Jason Dixon) Dr.khatmando (talk) 15:42, 11 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr.khatmando, indeed, great to hear from you! Very sorry to hear you're having health issues, and hope you can get firmly onto the recovery path. I've been a bit on and off WP myself. I noticed you'd been inactive, when I wanted to ask for your input last year on some other articles I'd been starting. These were a few stubs or start-class pages on Chinese and Japanese architects from the early-mid 20th century: e.g. Masatsugu Kobayashi, Jin Watanabe (architect) and Okada Shinichirō. During that era, there was a bit of overlap, as some Japanese architects worked in a Chinese-language environment, i.e. Taiwan. My technique was very rudimentary and relied heavily on Google translate either from the web or from JP and ZH Wikipedias, so I was going to ask you to take a look. Perhaps down the track, once you're feeling up to it though. I'll send you an email with my details. merlinVtwelve (talk) 01:52, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Using non-free images

[edit]

Please note that you cannot include non-free images on any non-mainspace page (such as the FFDs that are listed just above). This is a violation of WP:NFCC#9. The only place we allow for non-free images to be used at in mainspace pages. If you continue to readd, you may be blocked as that is seen as disruptive. --Masem (t) 22:14, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware of this rule, and am not sure why you are saying that I re-added the images. I have only added them once to this discussion page, a short while ago, (i.e. about one hour or so). I did do some formatting adjustments where they may have been deleted and re-added, but it was part of the page editing process, as the page is a bit messy. I am not into edit wars. merlinVtwelve (talk) 23:29, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not being aware of the rule is no crime certainly. You did re-add non-free images to the page after one was removed under WP:NFCC #9, which prohibits such use. You did so here, where you removed the semi-colon which resulted in it being displayed. A semi-colon was placed on it again so that it wasn't displaying [1], with an even more descriptive edit summary as to why. You then un-semi-coloned another non-free image [2], causing it to display. Then you re-added another non-free image [3]. Then added another [4]. I'm sure you weren't aware of what you are doing, but File:Think Think and Ah Tsai, Presidential cats.jpg, File:Tsai_Ing-wen_with_Think_Think_and_Ah_Tsai.jpg, and File:Stamp_Issue_Taiwan_2016_Presidential_Inauguration.jpg are all marked as non-free images and can not be displayed on pages outside of actual articles. This is why they were removed multiple times from that deletion discussion, as the deletion discussion is not an encyclopedia article. If you scroll down on any of the image description pages of those images, you will see a big red "C" inside of a larger red circle. If you see that, it means the image is non-free and must comply with all terms of our non-free content criteria. If you're not certain if an image is non-free or not, certainly ask and we'll be happy to help. --Hammersoft (talk) 18:32, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Hammersoft looking back now, technically I did re-add them. However, as shown by the timings, these were very closely spaced edits. I am using WikiText Editor 2017, combined with an offline text editor. At the time, I was having a lot of difficulty with a numbered list, and bullet points, as well as the images. I was experimenting in re-positioning the images on the page, and didn't realise that at the same time, a couple of other editors were re-editing my edits. I think those other editors were being trigger-happy, in not letting me complete the edits. To me, it just looked like the WikiText editor wasn't loading the page for some reason. User:Masem was using ALL-CAPS as if the world was ending, and I left an appropriate message on the editor's talk page. merlinVtwelve (talk) 20:10, 11 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:05, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
