GA Review

[edit]

Thanks for your review, edits and suggestions on Egyptian Theatre (DeKalb, Illinois). I worked hard on the article and hope to improve it further. Information is sparse beyond what I have. I have been looking for some good books on Egyptian Revival but have yet to find reference to the architect, perhaps he isn't notable enough, not sure. I also put in a request with the National Register of Historic Places for the nomination form which are usually full of info about every facet of the listing. So hopefully I can improve it further. Thanks again. IvoShandor 07:52, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also your user name is very humorous. : ) IvoShandor 07:55, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for participating in Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GA nominees task force/GAC backlog elimination drive. However, I have some concerns over your recent promotion on few articles. You didn't show us why the article is promoted to GA. Please read Wikipedia:Good article candidates throughly before doing any evaluation. If you need an example, you can take a look at Talk:Kritosaurus#GA Review and see how it's done properly. OhanaUnitedTalk page 19:14, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your information. I thought you didn't go through the checklist (as someone did at the moment) so I was just brining the checklist to your attention. It may be best to use the checklist to show others that you did check for them. The checklist is not mandatory in the review, but strongly encouraged to be used. OhanaUnitedTalk page 05:29, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made some comments at Rookery Building. I attempted to address your comments for the on hold. Though I don't agree that the picture issue should keep this article from GA once the expansion I did on "light court" is considered. If you think anything else needs addressed let me know and I should be able to accomodate, I own several sources. If everything is a-okay, then go ahead and pass it or do what you do. : ) (Note: I didn't work on or nominate the article in question until today). IvoShandor 20:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Samuil

[edit]

Greetings! In my mind some of the moments you have pointed out don't need clarification. But I will try to discuss them one by one.

Aron "sympathized with the Romans". In fact that doesn't sound very well in Bulgarian too but these are exactly the words of Skylitsa; he used that collocation in other cases regarding some of the Bulgarian Khans in 8th century who supported a peace with Byzantium.

As far as Roman is concerned he was castrated, so what is to be clarified here: ) The same can be said for the wound of Samuil: it healed at such an angle, because of the journey home; the distance was too great and they had to reach a major fortress as soon as possible, so they could not properly take care of the wound. Again the same for the battle of Skopie, the Byzantines defeated the Bulgarian army in almost the same circumstances as they did at Sprecheios which was very strange indeed having in mind that Samuil was a skilful general.

So you might now ask me exactly what do you want to know for the points that need clarification (as well as other question for the matter). If you wish you might move that to the talk page of the article. --Gligan 15:25, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hellenistic Civilisation

[edit]

Hi, I see a comment from on you on this translation requested Wikipedia:Translation/Hellenistic civilization to say you have started it, if so could you please change the stage to 2, and put your name against it, so that it is no longer at the requested stage... if you are not working on this please let me know, I will be happy to take this one up... :-)--Mayalekhni 23:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reviews

[edit]

It has been a few days since you selected Diet of Japan, Reincarnation research and Renewable energy commercialization in the United States from the Good Article candidate list. I was wondering whether things are progressing or if there has been some unforseen delay. -- Johnfos 10:48, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

References in multiple columns

[edit]

Hi - I saw your comment in the GA review for Seige of Eritria regarding having refs/footnotes in multiple columns. This can be done in two different ways:

  • using {{reflist|2}} (or even {{reflist|3}} for three columns). This will also reduce the text size slightly to further compact the list.
  • using the full wiki markup, which is <div class="references-2column"><references /></div>. This gives the columns but won't reduce text size.

You should also know that some browsers have a problem with this, so sometimes even with the multi-column markup refs will only appear as a single column (ie the IE7 browser I'm using now at work always shows one column, but my Firefox browser at home renders correctly).

More info on this is at WP:FOOT. Hope this helps ;) EyeSereneTALK 08:38, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for reviewing this article! I believe that all of your suggestions have been addressed (I've also added a little text about the writing and release of Chabon's novel Kavalier & Clay.) Thanks again, Hobbesy3 04:53, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By all means, still leave comments if you would like :) D. Recorder 18:15, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Sn1181-Chandra.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:38, 23 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shizhao (talk) 03:38, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion/Redirect of Fisherfaces

[edit]

I do not think Fisherface should have been deleted and redirected to Facial recognition system. It appears that the page was a copyvio and then was redirected entirely due to arguments that is too specialized and belongs in a specialist journal and not a general encyclopedia. The sole argument appears to be this:

"Delete. Topic belongs in a specialist journal, not a general encyclopedia. Previous information has already been removed as a copyvio; pointless to replace it when generic information on facial recognition software will suffice. Stretch 06:21, 24 January 2006 (UTC)"

I disagree with the first point, as Eigenface is a wonderfully written and detailed exposition of the Eigenface method of facial recognition, which is what Fisherface could become if allowed. There may not have been much available on the topic in 2006, but now there's plenty of content about Fisherface at places like this [2]. The argument that the page should be deleted as previous information was copyvio is nonsense - delete the violating text, not the article. Finally, I do not agree that general information on facial recognition software will suffice. I want to read an intro to the algorithm so I can see why its "competitive" (according to the Facial recognition system page) to Eigenface, etc. Please consider reopening this article/deleting it or whatever is necessary so it shows up on the non-existent articles list and people can start working on it (like me). Meowist (talk) 13:18, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find any record of Fisherface or Fisherfaces ever existing. Can you please tell me the exact name of the page, or the username of the user who created it? Stifle (talk) 20:50, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, it's actually spelled Fisherface.
