Edits to Leavenworth, Kansas
[edit]Hi. I have a question about your edits to the images in the infobox of the Leavenworth, Kansas article. Why are you making the images so BIG? There is no need for them to be that big. If you look at other articles about a city here on Wikipedia, the pictures are not big. So if you can explain as to why you are making them big, that would be helpful! Corkythehornetfan (talk) 21:03, 20 December 2013 (UTC)
- Edit was made because I changed the image and elements of the photo are difficult to observe at 200 px, so I slightly altered to 350. A larger photo size contributes to the Wikipedia reader's understanding of the subject matter. An edit war over this subject matter is silly and childish. There are many Wiki articles on this site that are factually incorrect and could use both of our attention. (talk) 10:03, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
I understand that, however, I feel like it should be discussed with other Wikipedians before it is actually done for other opinions. I think that it makes it look worse when the pictures are really big in the infobox, but that's just my opinion. Corkythehornetfan (talk) 19:59, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

- It appears that text was copied from the City of Leavenworth website, so you need to reword that text so its not identical. I'm done for the night. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 08:26, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Wow-thank you so much, that was much better than I hoped for! I can easily change the wording. Actually in terms of the wording it is the other way around. I manage the website for the City of Leavenworth and liked the wording I had on the page so I edited that. But I can alter it. Melissa Bower (talk) 23:38, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Advice at Draft:The Fort Leavenworth Lamp
[edit]Greetings, while you're awaiting review, please see the guideline Wikipedia:Notability (periodicals) and use that to make some improvements to your article. We'd like to see a higher ratio of quoting non-Lamp sources, ideally books of military history, journalism history, etc. which mention the development and impact of the paper. Take a look at the Notability policy and it'll give you an idea of what we want to see to approve the draft. I think the topic is likely valid, just needs more WP:Third party sourcing.
Also note the formatting fixes I made; try to bear those in mind so your future draft articles will be even easier to clean up and format for the reviewers. That is, 'bold the first use of the title term, use the right coding to make section headings, etc. Overall your formatting was decent for an earlier try, it's all a learning curve. MatthewVanitas (talk) 07:02, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Can you give me some examples of statements you think should be cited? Part of my reason for wanting to include this item is the lack of online sources, although there are a few hard copies of things. Melissa Bower (talk) 13:46, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Melissa Bower. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Draft:The Fort Leavenworth Lamp, you may have a conflict of interest.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Missvain (talk) 07:48, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Missvain Thanks for your input. I was employed by this organization but am no longer. I want to make sure that the information provided by and about this newspaper is available to the public. Currently, no Wikipedia entry for this organization exists and I am attempting to provide one. I am more than happy to pass it off to a local wikipedia editor if you have a suggestion for a mature, reliable one. Melissa Bower (talk) 16:57, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
