Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Diabolisinterium.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Diabolisinterium.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 09:18, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Your assistance please...

The record shows you deleted File:Mug shot of Guantanamo captive Mohamed al-Qahtani.jpg.

You said it lacked source information. I am pretty careful about that. I'd appreciate you providing me with the text portion of the file.

You wouldn't delete a file if the original source page went 404, would you?

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 22:13, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Ouran_Logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:Ouran_Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 06:22, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

File:Mildred Harris.jpg

Why did you delete File:Mildred Harris.jpg? Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:27, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Let me rephrase that as it's rather curt. It's probably not a good idea to delete images here under CSD F8 which are listed at Commons Deletion requests or tagged with deletion templates. The CSD page says "To avoid deletion at Commons, please ensure the Commons page description has all of the following ...". But it doesn't. For images like that one there's no great loss, but in other cases there might be. Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:35, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

I have now incorporated that orphan file into my new article Mungo Mackay so you can forget about deleting it. Thanks Block1945 (talk) 19:05, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Re. Maurice_Ravel_1930.jpg

Hi, Can you restore this deleted file (deleted due to being orphaned)? It was added to the commons for use in a future wikipedia article. Thanks,--Matthewpierce (talk) 21:44, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

I have tagged File:360_1.JPG as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. Otherwise, it will be deleted in seven days. Melesse (talk) 10:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

fair use...

I left a note at File talk:Ali Abd al-Rahman al-Faqasi al-Ghamdi.jpg. I am guessing you had no special reason to challenge the fair use, other than that he was an individual not known to be dead, is that correct...

About half the guys known to have been held in the CIAs black sites disappeared. Bush claimed the CIA emptied the black sites in September 2006. One guy who disappeared into the black sites Ibn al Sheik al Libi was found to have been held in a Libyan prison since 2005, about a year ago. But when the human rights workers who found he was there asked to interview him, they were told he had killed himself.

There is a very good chance he will never be heard from again. So I really believe this one existing picture of him should be treated as fair use.

Cheers Geo Swan (talk) 22:25, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Melesse! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 4 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 317 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Deletions of files already on commons

Hi Melesse, I see that you have been doing a lot of deletions of files already on the commons. I just wanted to make sure that you're confirming that all the necessary info is on the commons page before you delete (the requirements are laid out at WP:CSD) - you're going so fast I don't think this is possible. Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:23, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok, just wanted to make sure... Sometimes people who have copied the images over were lazy, which causes problems from time to time. Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Smackdownyourvote.JPG

Hi Melesse! I received your message, and I have to apologize that I am not familiar with a lot of the procedures for images and file uploading. In the case of the Smackdown your Vote image, it is a screenshot from WWE programming. I would like your help to understand the criterion for keeping the image, because I personally feel that the image improves the article's aesthetics and readability.

I am not sure what the policies are regarding replaceability and how easily-replaced an image is. Am I being asked about whether the image is necessary for understanding the article? Or am I being asked if there is a similar image available? --Screwball23 talk 02:51, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Re : Dainik_bhaskar_14_01_2010.png

I scanned the image from news paper and uploaded it. So I created it. Now, how I can make it free? If you delete the newspaper front page image, then please delete the logo image (Dainkbhaskarlogo.jpg) too because I uploaded it similarly. Thank you. Deleted files still here?

Hi Melesse, My Watchlist showed this morning that you had deleted four filed I had tagged [1][2][3][4]. However, they all still appear to be available. What am I missing? --Elen of the Roads (talk) 11:35, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

You deleted the file as redundant to a Commons file, but I think the file itself is a copyvio. Please comment on merit on the deletion discussion on Commons. Hekerui (talk) 10:32, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Closing bell image

Hi! I received your message, and if you know of a free image that could be used instead, definitely, you should upload it. Thank you.

Re: Your inappropriate wiki-bullying

You have repeatedly taken aim at my work, and in every instance where you reported a problem with my work, not once have I received any guidance or support from you. It is becoming very clear that your intent is to remove all of my uploaded files on Wikipedia, for reasons that I cannot understand. I urge you to keep your personal prejudices away from Wikipedia, and I strongly feel that this unfair bullying can warrant attention from a third-party Administrator.

All I ask from you is some constructive feedback and support, rather than these quick notices that end with you deleting the image one or two days later. You stated that my WWEClosingbell.jpg file could have been easily replaceable online, which was untrue, and then simply eliminated it without explaining why you said it could be "easily replaced or created".

Re : Verazzano.jpg

I looked over the Verazzano file and I stated the fact that is was from flickr. I'm surprised that someone who has earned 5 or 6 barnstar awards couldn't recognize flickr as a free source for images. --Screwball23 talk 22:53, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

File:WEAV.jpg

What was File:WEAV.jpg missing, exactly? I didn't realize that anyone had tagged it.

It was missing licensing information. Melesse (talk) 02:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Meh, if you say so. I'll just upload it to Commons anyway. I meant to in the first place regardless.
— V = I * R (Talk • Contribs) 02:21, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
If I may butt in here unasked, sorry Ohm, you can't upload it on Commons, it's non-free. Fut.Perf. 07:32, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Files Lambda-gift-box.jpg, Lambda-bottle-02.jpg, Lambda-bottle-01.jpg, SpeironCo-Logo.png

Hi, Melesse,

These files are used by files in my userspace that I have requested to be moved to articlespace. Have I done it the wrong way? If so what is the correct one?

I have not been notified by anyone about this move request. Should I ask someone?

Thanks Tassosl (talk) 13:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Non-free images are only to be used in articles, when building an article in your userspace, use a placeholder instead. Melesse (talk) 13:27, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

File Brainbug - Alberto Bertapelle.jpg

I am the original uploader, and I did not recieve a message about any issue with the free use rationale. I used the Wikipedia upload form, and inserted all the information requested. I understand that this may not be enough, so if it is not, please send me a message explaining any issue so that I can correct it. Otherwise, I don't know what I need to do. I will attempt to look for other pictures of living individuals and see what they have on their page, but if they have the same information as what I have on the page in question, I become seriously curious as to what the problem may have been. Thank you. MXVN (talk) 22:57, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
