Bad form
I would have hoped you could have posted this over on Bishonen's talk. I'm disappointed.--MONGO (talk) 01:45, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Maybe you should be more concerned with the fact that Winkelvi reverted Melanie's comment, which, btw, was a perfectly logical place for Melanie to post her endorsement of the block.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:01, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- I posted it where the discussion was (and where two people had already said "bad block"). Since WV chose to delete it, I have now copied it over to Bishonen's talk page. --MelanieN (talk) 02:07, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
AN revert
Sorry. I hit 'undo' when I meant to hit 'thank'. Jbh Talk 17:31, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- No problem, happens to all of us. --MelanieN (talk) 17:33, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- Crap!! Again!! High pain day... I have a TENS unit hooked up and it is playing merry hell with my motor control. Jbh Talk 17:36, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- Jbhunley This gadget might be of help then.. Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:40, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Galobtter: Thank you. (Not going to try the 'thank' button again today ) I will install it. Usually it is not an issue but I started using a trackball and the pulses from the TENS really mess me up. When my watchlist loads the entry lines reformat and if I have my pointer on 'thank' it ends up on 'rollback' in mid click. Usually I catch it but I'm far from at my best today. Again, MelanieN, I'm sorry. I meant to signal approval for your post at AN. It was well said and on point. Instead might have come off looking like a passive-aggressive jerk considering our last interaction. That was the opposite of my intention. Jbh Talk 17:57, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- LOL! Time for the favorite cussword of an engineer friend of mine: "Oh, the innate perversity of inanimate objects!" There is a problem here but it's not the reverts; it's the fact that you hurt. Do something about that! As for rollback, I have always hated it. A few weeks after somebody gave it to me I made them take it back. But then I unwillingly got it back because it came with the admin package. Galobtter, I might take a look at that gadget too. --MelanieN (talk) 19:34, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- BTW putting
.mw-rollback-link { display: none; }
- in your common.css should get rid of all rollback links if that's all you want. Galobtter (pingó mió) 19:39, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- Awright, that worked! Thank you! --MelanieN (talk) 19:47, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you I'm feeling much better now, just in time for another physical therapy session . Regrettably I find the the my 'animate' has decided to try to emulate the perversity of the inanimate with the choice being hurting or hurting from the PT to treat the hurting, but it will get better. Considering the alternative possible outcomes (The pain is the result of tapeworm larva taking up residence at a spinal nerve root and the resulting deconditioning from 8 years of being pretty much stuck in bed from pain or its management.) I am happy to simply be able to do the PT and attempt some more active things like fencing and maybe even some very short hiking outings once it cools off. Not that feeling, and being, fortunate stops me from whinging and moaning – I would make a terrible stoic . Jbh Talk 15:19, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker)Having gone through PT before myself, and having tried to use a computer while connected to a TENS unit, I can fully sympathize and I truly hope you do get better soon. I also fully sympathize with your appreciation of Melanie's comments. I've always found her to be quite thoughtful and insightful. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 15:24, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Bummer of a choice - let it hurt, or submit to Pure Torture in the hopes that it will get better. That sounds really crummy. Remind me never to get a tapeworm. Anyhow, if the TENS makes it hurt less, you are welcome to mistype all you want. And Pants, it's nice of you to say that, but JBH can remember a recent time when I wasn't exactly thoughtful and insightful toward him. Thanks for apparently being willing to forgive and forget. --MelanieN (talk) 19:26, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
tapeworm larva taking up residence at a spinal nerve root
- ...they can do that?
- noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
- Tapeworms are already wayyyy down my list of things not to get, and this just pushed it lower down the list in a way I didn't think was possible Galobtter (pingó mió) 19:34, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Hoarding tip
Glad to see I'm not the only one who actively rations NYTimes views [1]. Occasionally, in a pinch, I'll bypass whatever cookie they use by opening a private/incognito window in my browser and doing a Google search for the name of the article I want to see. ~Awilley (talk) 01:56, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- I used both those methods for a time. Finally, I called the NYT and said I've been a print subscriber for decades, is there a discount. They said it was included. Live and learn. O3000 (talk) 02:00, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- I have the same problem with the Washington Post. Sometimes I wind up there without even intending to, just because some blogger posts a link to a news story without indicating where it goes. My only dodge is to double my allowance by using my phone as well as the computer. I wonder if I would get another round by using a different browser on my computer? --MelanieN (talk) 19:32, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

- Guys, just use incognito mode (and by guys, I mean Melanie because I only saw her post in the diff :p). I’d run out of WaPo’s monthly allowance on the bus ride each morning if I didn’t... TonyBallioni (talk) 01:56, 7 September 2018 (UTC)
- I pay the 53¢/day to help support good old-fashioned journalism principles. Take that for granted and we may very well lose it; that's certainly the trend. Once lost, it will be very difficult to get it back. ―Mandruss ☎ 04:52, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
Wossy
I realise Jonathan Woss does sound like a BLP problem; but I'm pretty sure Ross doesn't really mind his rhotacism that much and just treats it as who he is - hence why his Twitter feed is called "#Wossy". A books search does return some hits, and while some are a bit barbed and nasty, some could be considered respectful. You couldn't really say that for the "alternative name" for Jeremy Hunt. Could we at least take it to WP:RfD first? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:42, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- Too lste; looks like it's already gone. The original author made it clear it was a joke, by referring to if as a "wedirect". I guess if you think it has merit you can recreate it. I can't do much of anything right now, my computer is offline and I'm stuck using my alt account on my phone. --MelanieN alt (talk) 16:51, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- You could ask Anthony to restore it. He commented that it had been recently created, but if I recall correctly it had been around for years. --MelanieN alt (talk) 17:10, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- P.S. I agree with you about wanting to remove the Jeremy redirect. That is not only inappropiate, it is lame. Don't they know the joke only works with Mike Hunt? --MelanieN alt (talk) 16:55, 14 September 2018 (UTC)
- There's a political angle to it - in some people's opinion, Jeremy Hunt is responsible for manslaughter (albeit indirectly) by NHS funding cuts causing people to die, which at least makes the "unpleasant word" somewhat understandable in real life.
