Beyonce's Lemonade

[edit]

Note from sheridanford (talk) 04:25, 29 April 2016 (UTC)kyraocity: People of African descent like myself and many other scholars like myself no longer refer to our past selves as slaves. We were enslaved people. Slaves erases the humanity of the people. And it focuses attention on something in the person rather than a system that forced human beings to becomes enslaved through their unpaid forced labor. Slavery also denies this structural process by other human beings. Unpaid forced labor might have been better than unpaid labor given you reaction. But I was trying to provide the nuance of contemporary scholarship. Using slave for enslaved people is like using illegals for people with illegal status or disabled people instead of people with disabilities. This metoynyms erase the humanity of oppressed and marginalized groups of people.[reply]
