Hi - to the Gibraltar entry under "communication" and Newspapers/periodicals I have added a link for The Gibraltar Magazine to the links for other publications in Gibraltar however it has been deleted twice. The Gibraltar Magazine is a legitimate publication which contains a wide variety of features and information on Gibraltar. Apparently it has been deleted because it is 'advertising" The Gibraltar Magazine contains adverts in exactly the same way The Gibraltar Chronicle and all the other publications and radio stations mentioned do so I fail to see why it is considered invalid and 'deleteable' whereas the other listings are legitimate. Please review your policy.
Many thanks
- Hi Meioow, could I suggest you post on the article's talk page explaining why the link should be included? PhilKnight (talk) 14:20, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
- The problem, in part, is that you added an external link to the magazine within the body text of the article - and this is not permitted in Wikipedia; external links should only be used as either references, or in the external links section. Note that the sentence about Gibraltar Chronicle links to the Wikipedia article Gibraltar Chronicle, not to the website of the publication.
- So, in the body text (the communication section), you should put just "The Gibraltar Magazine is a glossy..." (with no link at all), or "The [[Gibraltar Magazine]] is a glossy..." - which will make a redlink to the non-existent article. If you could find sufficient reliable sources, then you might even consider making an article for the magazine.
- Because you have already tried to add the link twice, at this point I would suggest that you do discuss the edit on the talk page of the article before making the edit again - perhaps explain there that you now realise why an external link in the body was inappropriate - and hopefully then, Ckatz (talk · contribs) and/or other editors will agree to your suggestion. I think that the reversion of your edits was probably down to the external link (they do look like spam), but that the other edit (ie the appropriate part in 'external links' was reverted at the same time. So - please try to discuss it and reach consensus. 龗 (talk) 18:36, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
{{helpme}} I am confused as to why The GIbraltar Magazine is deleted however it is added whether just to external links, without link in the body text - wherever - other publications with less content (see page 7 of mag on web page for contents of The Gibraltar Magazine) are included. Other media, weekly 'newspapers' etc are included in external links, and yet The Gibraltar magazine includes more info such as history etc... is it simply a policy that 'newspapers' weekly or not are allowed, magazines because they are less frequent are not???—Preceding unsigned comment added by Meioow (talk • contribs) 01:53, July 6, 2009
- The number of links currently presented on the article is excessive as Wikipedia is not a repository of links. I've already removed several links which are already present in the open directory link. -Optigan13 (talk) 09:33, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
but if I add just "The Gibraltar Magazine is a monthly magazine" to the list of other publications and media (no link at all - under communications) this also gets removed Meioow (talk) 15:49, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- My suggestion here is to create the article regarding the magazine. You may want to see Your First Article. --The New Mikemoral ♪♫ 16:24, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay thanks for your suggestions. I will write the article and see what happens. It's become something of a mission now!
