In a small neighborhood called Fairland Springs in the suburbs of Silver Spring, Maryland there is one very interesting inhabitant. A donkey named Moonshine lives on Crest Hill Lane in one family’s front yard. Moonshine was rescued by his owner who bought him from Mexico to save him from being killed. Moonshine, along with another donkey named Dusty who had since passed, were going to be killed by their owners in Mexico and when their current owners found out about this they bought them right away. Moonshine was then helicopter into the neighborhood and into the fence that he now lives in today. Everyone in the neighborhood loves Moonshine, from the kids to the garbage men. On afternoon walks or just for fun people will stop by his fence and feed him carrots. He always likes visitors and greets everyone with a very loud ‘HEE-HAW.’ Having a donkey in the neighborhood isn’t the most usual thing but their people of Fairland Springs love it. It is something to show guests and gives the neighborhood a little spice. They say that lately Moonshine has been lonely for Dusty because you can hear him calling ‘HEE-HAW’ in the middle of the night from your house. Overall, having a donkey in the neighborhood is somewhat strange but it is also very cool and good to know that Moonshine’s life was saved.
