Welcome!

Hello, Maynarkj, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! PDCook (talk) 16:32, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings and thank you for your contributions. I should point out that in the Death in Paradise (Parker novel) article, the book itself does not constitute a WP:Reliable source, and thus this article is currently unreferenced. Any plot summary extracted from the book directly is considered WP:Original research. Independent sources, such as book reviews, are needed. Regards, PDCook (talk) 14:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The same is true for Night Passage (Parker novel) and Trouble in Paradise (Parker novel). PDCook (talk) 14:24, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting issues with your own articles

[edit]

It's been a month now, and you haven't corrected Death in Paradise (Parker novel), although you did usefully add an infobox to Night Passage (Parker novel).

Similar issues come up in High Profile (Parker novel).

I'd strongly encourage continuing improvements to your existing articles. It may seem that you've put in a substantial part of the work already, but I can say, having created a number of new Wiki book articles, that you're only doing half the work, and some of the easiest part.

Examples of what I did for my articles: 1) Bought the book, 2) Scanned and uploaded the book cover to the article, 3) Investigated printing history, 4) Searched extensively for reviews, and quoted them, 5) Bought references that discussed the book, and quoted and referenced them. This was time-consuming and expensive, but I'll note that only once was one of my articles given an improvement tag.

When writing a plot summary, doing a certain amount of what would be unacceptable original research in other Wikipedia articles is unavoidable. However, when Pdcook is talking about original research, they may be referring to comments you made such as "The plot thickens", "This at first seems unimportant", and "it now appears to Jesse that Laurie is trying to cement herself a new sugar daddy"

Part of the "clues" as it were, that these phrases are unacceptable original research is that they are also informal writing, and clichés. The first two phrases should not be in an encyclopedia, and the third should be rephrased in neutral, non-cliché language. (For example: "Jesse believes Laurie is trying to attract a rich man to support her."

An exercise you'll probably find useful is to go back and remove 10% of the words you deem "least essential". If you think they aren't absolutely needed, there's a good chance a casual reader who doesn't know the books will think so, too.

License tagging for File:Gloria Estefan Alma Caribena.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gloria Estefan Alma Caribena.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:06, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shannara

[edit]

Hi, can you please recreate Indomitable - Shannara Short Story at Indomitable (short story) instead of the existing redirect, your new article name is incorrectly formatted. Since it is a cut-and-paste move it is best that you do it yourself as you are the creature of the new article. If you are unsure how or have trouble doing so, I can do it for you. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 18:51, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You should also be sure to use the Upload Wizard when uploading images, I added the proper non-free fair use rationale and licensing templates to File:Indomitable Shannara.jpg, but File:WeaponMastersChoice.jpg and any new images you upload will need them, or be tagged for deletion. You can copy what I added for other images if you like, just update the file-specific info. Thanks.— TAnthonyTalk 19:12, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've had the "Indomitable" article moved to the proper place, thanks for creating it! — TAnthonyTalk 23:03, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Maynarkj, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to The Weapon Master's Choice has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — TAnthonyTalk 20:46, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File licensing

[edit]

Hey there - thanks for creating the new article on Allanon's Quest! I noticed you uploaded File:AllanonsQuest.jpg. As I think has been noted before above by others, files need to have proper licensing information (and fair use rationale, when necessary). I have added these to the file myself, if you'd like to take a look at how it's done for non-free book covers. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know (I know this message is very broad). Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:22, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Gloria Estefan Alma Caribena.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Gloria Estefan Alma Caribena.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:21, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making test edits in Wikipedia pages, such as those you made to Metallica, even if you intend to fix them later. Your edits do not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment again, please use the sandbox. Nothing to revert, but you've clearly chosen to resort to not editing constructively. Please stop. 4TheWynne(talk)(contribs) 09:28, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:ImaginaryFriends EarlyDraft.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:ImaginaryFriends Shannara.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:50, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Walker and the Shade of Allanon

[edit]

Hello, Maynarkj,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Walker and the Shade of Allanon should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Walker and the Shade of Allanon .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, TheLongTone (talk) 15:11, 6 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
