The August 2023 Good Article Nominations Backlog Drive is at the halfway mark, and has seen incredible progress, dropping the backlog from 638 to 359 unreviewed articles -- a 43.7% reduction in only fifteen days! But we still have over two weeks to go, and there are plenty of articles left to review:
- We've gone from 14 nominations 270+ days old and 65 nominations 180+ days old to 2 and 0 respectively. No more articles will reach 270+ status during the drive, and only three more will reach 180+ if unreviewed, so this is your last chance to get the higher age bonuses!
- We still have plenty of articles in the 90+ range, but the list is shrinking fast.
- Some articles need new reviewers, either because they're officially on second opinion or because the original reviews were deleted or invalidated. You can help prevent these articles from waiting longer!
- While there are starting to be clear favourites for the Content Review Medal of Merit, the field is still very open. A late entrant can still pull an upset to get the most reviews in the drive!
And remember: if you've done reviews, you should log them at the backlog drive page for points, so they can be tracked towards your awards at the end.
Thanks for signing up for the drive, and I hope to see you reviewing! Vaticidalprophet 02:01, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

You absolutely did the right thing by trying to support this editor. The fact that it turned out that he didn't deserve your help is no discredit to you. Unfortunately, my experience over the years is that 90% of editors of this kind can't and won't be helped, but it's still worth trying to help them, for two reasons. Firstly, and in my opinion most importantly, the waste of your time for those 90% is, I think, outweighed by the value of the 10% of successes. Secondly, if it does turn out that the person in question is not capable of being helped, then the very fact that you tried to help and it didn't work makes the situation clearer, so that it is easier for decisions to be taken. Please continue to assume good faith and to try to help rather than condemn whenever it seems there's a reasonable chance that doing so may be justified, and put it down to your good nature, not your naivety, when, as will often happen, your attempt to help turns out to fall on stony ground. - Thanks @JBW! I understand the “giveemtherope” concept for sure. Certainly, I won’t let this kill my optimistic nature. But certainly it’s a reminder of the lesson: when someone shows who they are, believe them. — MaxnaCarta ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:23, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- "When someone shows who they are, believe them" is a very neat way of expressing it. May I reuse it? JBW (talk) 15:59, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @JBW, sure. Haha. Don’t think of me as exceptionally profound, I heard it elsewhere myself. — MaxnaCarta ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:02, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- Yes. A quick Google check reveals that it's actually a quote from Maya Angelou. JBW (talk) 07:08, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Murder of Vivianne Ruiz
The article Murder of Vivianne Ruiz you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Murder of Vivianne Ruiz for comments about the article, and Talk:Murder of Vivianne Ruiz/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. New pages patrol newsletter
Hello MaxnaCarta,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

November Articles for creation backlog drive
Hello MaxnaCarta:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
Your draft article, Draft:Sex Worker Murders
Hello, MaxnaCarta. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Sex Worker Murders".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 17:09, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Playwrights' Studio Scotland
Hello, MaxnaCarta. You rejected my article Draft:Playwrights' Studio Scotland and I need help to get it published. You can probably tell I am not a writer so thank you in advance for your patience. I believe I have addressed all of the issues on the page and at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk#13:33, 20 November 2023 review of submission by Kissable54. Admittedly the draft might need a bit more work but the subject is certainly notable enough. Kissable54 (talk) 19:13, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Kissable54 I am the sixth editor to assess the topic as not notable. My decision is final and I will sadly not be able to engage further about the possibility of publishing this draft to main space. Thank you for your efforts. — MaxnaCarta ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:26, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @MaxnaCarta I believe you have made a mistake.
- I agree the bar is high, as is the standard of Scotlands Playwrights.
- Can you check just two of the references. 20 and 21. You will see names that might mean nothing to you but are giants of Scottish literature. You must have heard of Liz Lochead and possibly David Greig (dramatist) to name but two. Kissable54 (talk) 21:17, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
Yikes…
Saying that someone that’s famous in another country isn’t notable enough to warrant a page on English Wikipedia comes off as extremely racist, especially when you don’t speak the language of that country. Ouch. 2600:1700:3D70:532F:46E:185E:9DD2:20C0 (talk) 08:42, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi! We do not seem to have interacted before, and you have only made one edit from this IP address, so I am not entirely sure to what you are referring. Could it be this draft? Anyone who reviews my decision not to publish the draft is going to see I merely applied the subject-specific notability guideline and welcome resubmission once this actor meets WP:NACTOR. If you have an issue with my decision, please contact the AFC help desk for a re-review. As to speaking Korean, that's true, I do not. However I did translate the coverage and its not sufficient. Also, the article is written in English, which I speak fluently, and that draft very clearly lists only one acting credit, which is insufficient to meet the actor notability criteria. I take an allegation of racism quite seriously, so please refrain from making personal attacks when I was merely discharging my role as a volunteer reviewer. — MaxnaCarta ( 💬 • 📝 ) 08:56, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Draft:Evgenii Przhevalsky
Hi! I'm trying to upload an article about famous soviet chemist, but it constantly gets declined. Last time it came from you, so I would like to ask if you can help me understand the problems with it. Thank you in advance! Timsenin (talk) 11:38, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Draft:Soundpainting
Hi! I just reviewed the draft I've been working on about Soundpainting, and that you've declined yesterday. Could you by any chance tell me how I could make some more improvements? Thanks a lot! AnnePernas (talk) 16:57, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
When are Miss America related articles usually submitted; how come it's too early for 2025 to have her own article here on Wikipedia?
I've been seeing and hearing comments that it's too soon for the Miss America 2025 to have her own article on the English Wikipedia. How soon is too soon? When should I submit the article to this Wikipedia? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 17:23, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Tropical Storm Angela when principal filming commences or there is significant coverage about the actual series - probably close to the end of 2024. — MaxnaCarta ( 💬 • 📝 ) 22:27, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
