- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References== {{Reflist}}

[edit]Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your contributions to article IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Please use secondary independent reliable sources. RangersRus (talk) 00:04, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, can you help me under how they are not constructive? I had added relevant primary sources, maybe I might have missed something or misunderstood some policy. Your help is greatly appreciated Mavrick2022 (talk) 16:55, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:No_original_research#Primary,_secondary_and_tertiary_sources. "Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources, and to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources. Secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability and avoid novel interpretations of primary sources. All analyses and interpretive or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary or tertiary source and must not be an original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors." 2024 Men's Asian Hockey Champions Trophy
[edit]Please don't update the score or points table until the match(es) are completed. NiteshTALK 08:56, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Noted. Thanks for informing, in the excitment of the match I did it Mavrick2022 (talk) 11:58, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- You're doing it again. Can't you understand? It's a simple thing—don't update the score until the match is completed. NiteshTALK 11:01, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- live scores are updated during olympics also. I understand that updating the table can lead to calculation issues, but updating the score in the in matches sections helps audience get live score from wikipedia also, and I would like your help in understanding how updating it with live score from the records affects in maintaining the page or causes issues for other maintainers, which I might have missed, regards Mavrick2022 (talk) 11:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Readers might assume it's the final score because it doesn't specify whether it's the final, halftime, or quarter score. Premature score updates are one of the reasons this page is protected until 18 September. NiteshTALK 11:23, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- understood and makes sense, as I suggestion, shouldn't we also add live score indicator or time like quater, half time, for example, would like to know your opinion on it Mavrick2022 (talk) 11:25, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, cricket scores on Wikipedia are updated after each innings or session, likely due to the length and time involved. I would be fine with applying a similar approach to hockey scores, updating them after each quarter or at halftime. However, I think this would require a change at the template level, which should be addressed through consensus. You should seek consensus on this proposal. NiteshTALK 12:24, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- I saw thinking the same. I think we should also add more details like green card, yellow card and red card just like in football Mavrick2022 (talk) 12:57, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- If you want, you can address these things. Seeking consensus will help you understand the views of other editors on this matter and also allow them to become familiar with your thoughts. NiteshTALK 13:16, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- turn out Template:Fieldhockeybox already has option for cards, so using that Mavrick2022 (talk) 08:31, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I've never seen them used before by anyone. You should hold a discussion (inviting other editors) on whether to use these options or not. NiteshTALK 08:56, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- oh, i thought since we have this option, we can use it. can you help me with how to start a discussion around this? I have added to the template talk page, but not sure if its the right method to do this or not Mavrick2022 (talk) 09:31, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Simply tag editors with knowledge of the relevant topic in your reply on the appropriate talk page. NiteshTALK 10:06, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop. If you continue to add unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did at 2024 Men's Asian Champions Trophy, you may be blocked from editing. NiteshTALK 11:03, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Nitesh003 I am using https://tms.fih.ch/matches/20015/reports/matchreport which is the source quoted in below each match as the official source. so as far as my understanding goes, its not unsourced or poorly sourced content, but the same source with the same article is using. please correct me if I am wrong Mavrick2022 (talk) 11:22, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- But it's not the final score. You are updating it live, and live goals may change. That's why it falls under poorly sourced or unsourced content, and it's not appropriate to prematurely update the score unless it's specifically mentioned as halftime, quarter, etc. NiteshTALK 11:29, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- i understand your point, so should we add half time score or something like that? Mavrick2022 (talk) 11:32, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Vikram Sampath, you may be blocked from editing. This warning concerns this edit. TrangaBellam (talk) 15:16, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Noted, will add relevant explanation. But I also noted that you have removed all the material I had added including the awards mentioned and that he is also a columnist. So am I allowed to add those details back or will that also lead to a ban? Mavrick2022 (talk) 18:50, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
