Deletion of Poultryhub.org

Hi... you deleted my fledgling article on Poultryhub.org about an hour after I worked on it. Poultryhub.org is a wiki for the poultry industry community to use so it can improve poultry-related research and education activities. I stated on the talk page that I would continue to work on it to ensure it met encyclopaedic standards, but your arbitrary decision to wipe it was swift indeed. Very kneejerk if you ask me and quite unfair. There's no other wiki with this scope dedicated to poultry or any other livestock industry for that matter and I feel that it is worthy of an entry. Most distressed by this development and wondering who's agenda we're serving here. Hopefully not some vegan with a chip on their shoulder. Belmop 04:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

OK - so you didn't delete it (sorry) but you tagged it for speedy deletion rather than taking the time to discuss it on the discussion page, so by the time I get around to addressing the need to improve the article... it's too late. This irked me somewhat and your "tag" made you the target of my frustration. I always assume good faith.. until I get shafted. The criteria state "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved or reduced to a stub; if so, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets and consider notifying the page's creator." Deflecting editorial responsibility to some faceless admin is beneath all of us. And it wasn't a "veiled" accusation. I took a punt that you were opposed to any mention of intensive animal production unless it was bagging it. You haven't told me I was wrong, yet. Anyway... before you get all hot under the collar and we start winding each other up, I'll work on ensuring any future articles conform to the acceptable criteria, but I guess I had better go and appeal to the powers that be and beg for my article back. You might think about letting an article being created before attempting to merge it into a different thing. I guess creating it and letting people help is too much these days. Regarding Intellectual Property Statement/s

Thanx again (second time in that many days) for advising, assisting, and pointing me in the right direction! I will participate on the noticeboard as suggested!

By way of clarification/explanation .. I note in the end, while the linked 'Intellectual Property Statement' briefly describes the nature of Aboriginal knowledge economies of the region/s .. it in FACT does no more than signal an intention or wish to identify the original person/s or groups from which the name, mythology, or designs sourced in the relevant article..

I'd wished only to give my own statement in the process of using materials made known to me through my dealings with Aboriginal peoples (and potential readers/Wiki users), to simply make a statement of 'good research practice' which I'd hoped might truly be no more than an slight elaboration on, wholly consistent with Wikipediia's existing general citing/ referencing requirements ..

I had nopt imagined that making a 'good practice' statement of this kind might in any way offend Wiki licencing conditions .. (I'll now have a closer look!) .. particularly as the statement, and the associated good citing/good research practice, in no way constrains nor limits free and open public access and use of the information so generated and posted in Wikpedia . .. I guess this all something to more publicly explore on the notice board (a forum I was not really aware of, and had not put in my 'watch' list ..until now!

Oops, that came across a bit snippy. Pre-coffee wikipedia and all that. Um...yeah is there any established guideline or pattern or whatever regarding the use of galleries vs Commons links? My feeling has been that Commons and Wikipedia are separate projects, and while they may overlap, it's not "redundant" for them to do so. A Wikipedia page should strive to be the best Wikipedia page it can be, and shouldn't avoid treading on Commons' toes. I also don't really think that a Commons link is really likely to be noticed by anyone, so putting photos just on the Commons page is effectively hiding them from readers. Sort of like if you replaced the illustrations in a book with a little note saying "if you want to see pictures of this thing, open this other book instead".

So, in general, I think illustrating Wikipedia pages with pictures from Commons is good, as long as it doesn't get out of control. I tend to go out of my way to find pictures on Commons to add to Wikipedia pages, using Magnus Manske's FIST tool. Stevage 04:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

WP:CRICAUSBIO

Hi there Mattinbgn. Since we know have a lot of people writing about Australian cricket biography articles [I counted five people who have written FAs or GAs on Australian cricket in this year], and since some people (like myself) tend to work offline with a book for a few hours and then upload in a large chunk (so it seems), I have created this subnoticeboard type thing, so that people can write down what major expansions they are working on, so that there won't be instances of people spending 5-10 hours writing and collecting information which is then duplicated. It has happened before at WP:GAC that two people spent an hour or so reviewing an article and then had an edit conflict and posted two reviews on the same article among other things. Of course, this shows a good sign that the Australian cricket biography scene is doing well. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:38, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

nb. Bradman batted at 7 in his 1st Test, and at 6 for his next two Tests, then at 5 in the last. Not necessary to put this in, it just demonstrates that a young player is sometimes "eased in" down the order, hence Ryder's uncertainty as to Jackson's place in the order. You seem to have covered the facts etc. I think it needs a stiff copy edit, happy to do it for you, or get someone else if you like. IMO it's better to get someone knowledgable about cricket to ce; I've seen non-cricket types ce cricket articles, ends up a bit clunky. The big problem will be objections about hagiography, ie. where's the criticism? I copped this with Kippax; some people find it hard to believe that someone can be liked by just about everyone...lol. It's especially hard with Jackson because he's so revered and he died so young that there's not much about, so if it comes up at FAC, you will have to point that out. Oh, and get an ID for the pic of the 1930 team, I think he is second from left in the back row, but not 100%. Perhaps try WT:CRIC??

I ce'd the first section, hope this is to your taste. If so, I will run through the rest later in the week. I trimmed the descriptors of Doc Evatt down to just Labor politician as he has so many notable titles that it would make an inelegant sentence to include them all. I also removed the ref to Vic's world record score as it upset the flow a bit and I don't think its relevant to Jackson, apart from the fact he had to chase leather for a few days. Suburbs of Brisbane category

Hello. I see you have changed the categories of Redcliffe City suburb articles to Category:Suburbs of Brisbane. Redcliffe isn't a part of Brisbane (and come the next local government elections in 2008 it is a part of the new Moreton Bay Regional Council). Informally areas surrounding the Brisbane City Council area may be referred to as "Brisbane" (sort of like an 'inner' or 'metro' South East Queensland), but I don't believe this category should be used on here in such an way. Just letting you know in case you aren't aware. :)  SEO⁷⁵ 04:53, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

I guess what Redcliffe articles should have had was a category similar to that of Strathpine, Queensland: Category:Pine Rivers, Queensland – it is closer to the Brisbane central business district than, say, Clontarf is, and it hasn't been added to Suburbs of Brisbane. No point in creating that now since the local elections are in just three months. Has given me the idea (reminder?) to start work on a category for the new council it will form part of, as well as merging content from all three councils into the Moreton Bay Regional Council article, so thanks for that.  SEO⁷⁵ 05:44, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

The Queensland=yes parameter you've been using to tag Queensland related articles isn't functional (see Talk:Boondooma Dam) - it simply doesn't exist. QLD=yes is the correct method for tagging Queensland related articles. It's an easy mistake to make, I've done it myself often. Article Ratings

How do I go about getting the article ratings lifted from 'Start' or 'Stub' class - I've had a look and believe that they should easily be a higher rating but don't know what the process is they I need to go through. I was wondering if you can can you have a look at The Stems, The Triffids and The Hoodoo Gurus, have been working on creating articles for the various albums, singles, band members etc for each - I wouldn't mind somebody checking them and letting me know what improvements I need to make to bring them up to a better standard. I will have a look at Marsh now. I don't anticipate any problems. With the skippers, I am working on Collins at the moment and my mental worklist after him is Hill, Noble, Darling and Trumble. Bradman, Hassett and Johnson should all come up as part of the Invincibles project and the latter ones should draw interest from others. Further: I made the lead on Jackson more succinct, but we need to discuss the style section & then go to FAC. He lived a very short and eventful life, so all the salient facts are there. I think that the style section is spot on, but NPOV being what it is (I reckon a Balanced POV would be a better policy, but that's by the by), objections may come from those not familar with cricket about this section. There is a strong link between the "NSW style" (I think the ADB calls it the Sydney school of batsmanship) that goes Bannerman-Trumper-Macartney-Kippax-Jackson-McCabe. A couple of verbatim quotes about Jackson's style by respected writers might be the go (eg. Cardus, Robinson, someone contemporary) in the form of block quotes. Do you have any in the Frith book or from someone else? I will look around and see what I can find. BTW, I have another nice pic of Jackson playing a cover drive, shall we add it/is there room?

Re McCool: I don't have great sources about McCool & as far as I know, no biography has been written about him. He is one of the "lost generation" of players after the war who left Australian cricket due to a lack of opportunity; puzzling as Australian cricket struggled to find reliable spinners in the era between the Invincibles and the rise of Benaud in the late 50s. There seems to have been an unwritten rule that Australia couldn't pick players who played o/s, which was costly when the team struggled in the mid 50s. I have spent a lot of time looking for pics of him without success. Also, there is a lack of anecdotes and personality type stuff about him, what motivated him etc. I found a ref that he continued playing in Newcastle (NSW) until he was 55, so he clearly loved the game. However, I will come back to him down the track when I have done a bit more research.
