License tagging for Image:Murray football league logo new.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Murray football league logo new.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 11:06, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Re town infoboxes

[edit]

Good work with the new town pages! Just thought I'd better inform you - the Infobox Australian Town template is all but deprecated. Work on an all-encompassing {{Infobox Australian Place}} is well under way (see its talk page) but in order to get best results with the new template I suggest you use Infobox Town AU for now, as it'll probably be the one that changes least in the migration over to the new template. Formalities aside - pleased to see good contributors wherever they may be - keep up the good work! Orderinchaos78 (t|c) 19:21, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IAP as above is now active.

Aussie towns

[edit]

Hey, just noticed that you had not put your name in the list of particpants at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian places. While it probably doesn't mean much in practice to put your name on, it doesn't hurt to add yours, and it shows the size of the group actively going at it. Just thought I would throw out an invite. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Murray Football league logo.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Murray Football league logo.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Edward 17:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NSW Town info boxes: max & min temperatures

[edit]

I just thought I should let you know that I've corrected the maximum and minimum temperatures in two of the info boxes you've added to Hay and Balranald. I'm not sure where your information is coming from but I've got the details from the Bureau of Meteorology web-site. For example the following link - Bureau of Meteorology: Balranald - gives the Balranald statistics. You've been getting the rainfall right, but for some reason the max & min temperatures you have added are way off. Ikeshut 23:52, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments. I can now see where the confusion has arisen. I have no objection to you posting our discussion to the group. Can I just give my opinion in more detail about all this. To me the mean daily maximum & minimum temperatures will perhaps give someone a rough idea what a spring or autumn day is like in these towns, but will give no idea of the variability of a particular place. On the other hand my use of the highest & lowest recorded temperatures gives the extremities of the temperature range, which actually over-emphasises the variability. I think, to strike a middle road, what we should be aiming at is the typical highest and typical lowest temperatures for the whole year - i.e., the mean temperature of the hottest month and the mean temperature of the coldest month. For Balranald for example the hottest ever recorded was 47.7, the mean for the whole year is 24.1, and the mean temperature for the month with the hottest mean (January) is 32.9. The minimum temeratures are -4.8, 9.8 and 3.5 (July). To me the mean temperature of the hottest month and the mean temperature of the coldest month seems more meaningful under a category that just says "Max" and "Min". I've seen you continuously contributing articles on LGAs in Australia. Nice work! tgies 09:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Second that for the Queensland repointing you are doing. This has been on my to do list for a while, and is great to see it getting done. Cheers. SauliH 00:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads up! Only two links were not duplicated, so I shifted them across and changed the article to a redirect. Orderinchaos78 16:08, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Townsville City Counil

[edit]

Hi Mattinbgn, thanks for the infobox and cleanup of Townsville City Council! it looks great. Unless you have any objections I will decrease the size of the logo so that it is of better resolution for viewing. Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 12:06, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Mattinbgn, that means a lot to me. WikiTownsvillian 23:14, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Carrathool Shire Council

[edit]

Hi Mattinbgn, I just thought you should know about a few changes needed for the Carrathool Shire Council LGA box at the bottom of the Hillston, New South Wales article. 'Merriwagga' needs to be corrected as it has two 'ii's in the infobox and Rankins Springs is supposed to have an extra 's' (it is not Rankin Springs). Regards Ikeshut 04:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Category Renaming

[edit]

I guess the category would find a home as a subcategory of Category:Towns in New South Wales and similar. Templates and infoboxes can be adjusted to automatically categorise articles where they are used. If you would like to see the category renamed or deleted, let me know and I'll see how I can help. -- Longhair\talk 05:40, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shire Info Boxes

[edit]

Howdy Mattinbgn - it looks like we have some similar interests. If you have the know-how and time can you please add the appropriate Shire Info box at the bottom of the Yenda, New South Wales & Cookardinia, New South Wales articles that I have started in the last day or two - and perhaps also to Mangoplah, New South Wales? I do not know what the info ({{ref's}}) for these towns are. VirtualSteve 07:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cities and towns in the Riverina region of New South Wales

[edit]

Noticed the good work that you are doing updating the towns that I have recently put up (and others still awaiting this info box). I have a question though - In the box listed in the towns part we include eg: Alma Park and others that are not 'towns' or even 'villages' (they are at best areas with a name) which is fine but why do we not then include in the (Riverina)info box other areas - for example Urangeline and Urangeline East (and others) which are within the Riverina and are in fact bigger than Alma Park? Or (2nd part of the question) can we include these places into the (Riverina) box as we come across them and if so where is the template kept? VirtualSteve 06:22, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not the best image. I'll grab some more when I'm next out there. I didn't have much time on my last visit. -- Longhair\talk 22:37, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if this image is worth including. Feel free to use it however you wish. Again, it's not the best...

When you say irrigiation structure, what exactly do you mean? I live on an irrigated block which uses overhead sprinkers, and I'm not far from the nearest channel. Thye all look the same throughout Sunraysia. I've got a little spare time now to grab some more shots, though I don't think I'll get out as far as Dareton. Got any requests? -- Longhair\talk 03:06, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Easy stuff. We're watering here today, so I'll wait until a little later and grab some irrigation pics. I'll be back near to Dareton inside the next 2 weeks so it's no problem grabbing more local images from there. -- Longhair\talk 03:20, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is working well

[edit]

Dheers Mattinbgn - We seem to be shadowing each others work and it looks to be working well. At this rate we will have all of the template:Riverina redlinks (and a few other towns/villages/communities) covered by the end of the month.VirtualSteve 07:44, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suburbs template

[edit]

Hi WikiTownsvillian,

I have had a bit of a play with the Townsville/Thuringowa suburbs infobox in my Sandbox. As you can see I have done many similar ones for other LGAs. Let me know what you think and if you are happy I will move it over to replace the existing one.--Mattinbgn 01:38, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I decided to follow WP:BOLD and make the change to the infobox. I see there is a Townsville wikiproject and that may have been the place I should have taken discussion on my proposed changes to the infobox. Once again, if you or other members of the project are unhappy with it, revert it back. Well done on the Townsville, Queensland article. It looks great.--Mattinbgn 06:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mattinbgn, sorry for not getting back to you straight away, I wanted to deal with the Townsville-stub issue first because it seems I accidentally contravened a Stub Wikipedia policy. The reason I made it a Townsville/Thuringowa and surrounding area heading and not Townsville and Thuringowa Local Government Areas, is because I wanted to include Palm and Orpheus Islands because they often get missed out and are no further away from Townsville City as Paluma is and have deep ties to Townsville City. These two islands are obviously not WikiTownsvillian 06:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good point on the LGA headings. You think I would have realised that seeing I have just added Palm Island Shire Council to the LGAs of Queenland nav box!!--Mattinbgn 06:46, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mattinbgn, I forgot to thank you before for putting in the effort both with this template and Palm, it's very gratifying to see that not only the Palm Island article is receiving such a huge amount of attention but it is also peaking interest in other related articles! WikiTownsvillian 07:01, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Palm Island article

[edit]

Hi Mattinbgn, I have access through our local library to a searchable on-line media monitor, I would like to copy full text newspaper articles over to a sandbox under the scope of either my user name or the Palm Island article. All these articles are obviously copywrited and it would be a breach of that copywrite to publish them verbatim into the Palm Island article, however I would like to know if that would apply to a temporary sandbox. The idea would be for me to copy newspaper articles to a sandbox which myself and all the other editors who are working on the Palm Island Collaboration can use as information sources (and then reference the information as being from the original article), the sandbox would then be wiped of the newspaper articles. I will also ask Mattinbgn. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! WikiTownsvillian 04:14, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply/advice. WikiTownsvillian 05:23, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mattinbgn, thanks for creating the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council stub, do you have any information as to when it was given full Shire Council status? Thanks,WikiTownsvillian 12:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nice addition of new photos

[edit]

That's a nice addition of new photos in the Griffith, Grong Grong, Ardlethan circle. The way this is going we will bump into each other at some isolated general store. I have a few more in Wagga Wagga to Canberra circle taken yesterday also. What is home base for you (if you don't mind me asking)? --VS talk...images 22:25, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks (for the comment about the vineyard image). I have noted down the needed images for Riverina as per talk page, many in terms of agriculture are hard to get at the moment considering the drought but I will find them as time goes on. Thought you must have been relatively close. I enjoy finding the obscure little villages and community areas and then trying to capture an image (usually from a limited array of constructions etc) that suits the town. For your info I am based in Wagga Wagga. --VS talk...images 22:52, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ganmain etc photos

[edit]
  • Cheers Matt. Appreciate the compliment. I think there is a chance that one day one of us will look over our shoulder and see the other one taking a photograph of the same thing and not realise that we are both wiki bound. - I actually orchestrated my photo run yesterday after I saw the great group of photographs that you had put up and that you had stopped at Ardlethan. I have managed (as you may have seen) to get Matong between Grong Grong and Ganmain up also. I also have Mirrool (just putting that up as we speak) and Beckom (next) and Ariah Park (next after that) and a few other obscure towns/places. I like the idea of your table - would be happy to support and to cross off as we knock each of these places over.--VS talk...images 06:50, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mirrool - edge of the Riverina

[edit]

I have just uploaded Mirrool and whilst I appreciate it is not conclusive proof I noted (as I literally rode out of town towards Beckom a sign that indicates that you are coming through the gateway of the Riverina at that point and have posted the image (and a couple of other interesting ones) to the Mirrool page. Thought it might be worthwhile telling you and Golden Wattle in light of the points being made about West Wyalong on the Riverina page. --VS talk...images 07:28, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photos to commons

[edit]

Hi - I notice you are uploading pics to wikipedia rather than Commons. As per Wikipedia:Uploading images#Multiproject upload you might like to consider uploading to Commons. I have recently created a category there called Category:Towns of the Riverina, New South Wales and also a page with a gallery Towns of the Riverina, New South Wales Regards --Golden Wattle talk 18:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have linked the Commons page as you suggested. It is still in development but with yor and Virtual Steve's contributions to come could become quite useful. Regards--Golden Wattle talk 01:19, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Riverina Railways

[edit]

I'll look at it, but the chronolgy is set out in Main Southern railway line, New South Wales.--Grahamec 12:56, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, it doesn't set out the chronology of the Victorian broad gauge lines, which are mentioned in Rail transport in Victoria.--Grahamec 23:41, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One Tree / One Tree Hotel

[edit]

Hi Mattinbgn, could you change the link from One Tree, New South Wales to One Tree Hotel, New South Wales in the "Cities and towns in the Riverina region of New South Wales" info-box. It can still be called "One Tree", but I decided to name the article "One Tree Hotel" because the hotel is the only thing there. I've put a re-direct on One Tree, New South Wales. One Tree was laid out as a village in the 19th century, but never really became one. It was basically a coach change-station, but is important because its still in existance & because of its spectacular location (as well as its cultural / historical importance). Maybe you should take it out of the "Cities and towns in the Riverina region of New South Wales" info-box altogether? Regards -- Ikeshut 02:56, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi - I hope you don't mind me putting my two cents in here. I have a problem with the suggestion by Ikeshut because it displaces our logic in terms of all the other smaller hamlets and rural communities that we have completed. Places like Alma Park, Methul, Brushwood, etc also have only one, or in some cases no structures but they are listed as locations in our template. In my view we should keep that logic throughout. One Tree is listed on the One Tree GNB of NSW and has its own postcode. I would much prefer to see One Tree Hotel merged into the article One Tree than vice versa as suggested.--VS talk...images 03:16, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • * I agree with your thoughts. It seems we were both picking up on this at the same time. --VS talk...images 03:18, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matt - do we have a consensus on this? The One Tree hotel information should sit nicely in as information of the locality. If Ikeshut is not adverse to adjusting it back I will do the rest of it as soon as it is back our template.--VS talk...images 09:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I support the view that the article should be about the locality even if the main feature of the locality is now only the hotel - there are many such localities around Australia. In general we do not have articles about hotels, we do have articles about localities even if very small.--Golden Wattle talk 19:27, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
