WikiCup 2013 March newsletter
We are halfway through round two. Pool A sees the strongest competition, with five out of eight of its competitors scoring over 100, and Pool H is lagging, with half of its competitors yet to score. WikiCup veterans lead overall; Pool A's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) (2010's winner) leads overall, with poolmate Miyagawa (submissions) (a finalist in 2011 and 2012) not far behind. Pool F's Casliber (submissions) (a finalist in 2010, 2011 and 2012) is in third. The top two scorers in each pool, as well as the next highest 16 scorers overall, will progress to round three at the end of April.
Today has seen a number of Easter-themed did you knows from WikiCup participants, and March has seen collaboration from contestants with WikiWomen's History Month. It's great to see the WikiCup being used as a locus of collaboration; if you know of any collaborative efforts going on, or want to start anything up, please feel free to use the WikiCup talk page to help find interested editors. As well as fostering collaboration, we're also seeing the Cup encouraging the improvement of high-importance articles through the bonus point system. Highlights from the last month include GAs on physicist Niels Bohr ( Hawkeye7 (submissions)), on the European hare ( Cwmhiraeth (submissions)), on the constellation Circinus ( Keilana (submissions) and Casliber (submissions)) and on the Third Epistle of John ( Cerebellum (submissions)). All of these subjects were covered on at least 50 Wikipedias at the beginning of the year and, subsequently, each contribution was awarded at least three times as many points as normal.
Wikipedians who enjoy friendly competition may be interested in participating in April's wikification drive. While wikifying an article is typically not considered "significant work" such that it can be claimed for WikiCup points, such gnomish work is often invaluable in keeping articles in shape, and is typically very helpful for new writers who may not be familiar with formatting norms.
A quick reminder: now, submission pages will need only a link to the article and a link to the nomination page, or, in the case of good article reviews, a link to the review only. See your submissions' page for details. This will hopefully make updating submission pages a little less tedious. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Introduction
Hi Matthewrbowker, My name is Brittany Todd and I'm a student at Azusa Pacific University. I wanted to introduce myself because I am currently enrolled in Intercultural Communication, and I noticed that you are a contributor for our class. Thanks, Brittctodd (talk) 21:28, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, Brittany! Nice to meet you, and I'm looking forward to working with you this semester. ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 04:18, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Question on creating Table of Contents on Wiki Users' Talk pages
Greetings! I have a couple students who are working on cleaning up their User Talk pages and have asked how to add a table of contents to their page. Any guidance or links you can suggest? Ajungle (talk) 21:00, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hello!
- Table of Contents should be automatically created when a page has enough section headings (For example, I added a table of contents to Brittany's page when I made a new section: before and after) However, if your students would like, they can force a table of contents to appear by placing "__TOC__" where they would like the contents to appear.
- Does this make sense? If not, please let me know and I can try to explain it clearer. ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 04:23, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Im sorry, but IDK how that happened. I think someone has gotten into my account. I would never type those profanities. - WolfShadow9192 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.32.12.173 (talk) 00:54, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- That's quite all right, no harm done. However, I would recommend you log in and change your password as soon as possible. Sometimes, accounts have been blocked for being compromised.
- Sorry about the confusion. ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 01:17, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Hi Maththewrbowker I just wanted to say hello
Hi Maththewrbowker I just wanted to say hello, and I'm new to the wiki talk pages, so please bare with me while I figure it out. Much of what I hope to do on my talk page will be assembling info from other wiki sites. To apply towards another Idea. Most will be based on an existing Wiki page entitled - Symmetry - and also others If relevant. I haven't figured out how to cite references yet. Great to have someone in your field, to oversee the experimental subject, I have in mind. Particle/Wave Function as a start, Conservation of Energy theory (A.E.), Quantum Mechanics , and Zero Point Energy, at normal room temperature.(hopefully)-k — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kelly Calk (talk • contribs) 06:17, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

- Hi, Kelley! Welcome to Wikipedia!
- I'm glad you're interested in sharing your knowledge with the world! Feel free to check out the links I left you on your talk page (click on "Talk" in the top right of the page), and they should give you a good introduction to contributing. To cite references, you can read through this page, which will give you information about the referencing syntax.
- If you have any additional questions, I'm available to help. Just leave me a message on this page (just like you did!) and I'll respond. Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay here! ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 04:36, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

question
Hello! I was just wondering how to make each sentence in a paragraph have the same cited number at the end. They are all from the same source. thanks so much! Haleyhook (talk) 18:58, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, Haley!
- Using the same reference for multiple facts involves assigning a specific "name" to each reference. The first time a reference appears, it should be cited like this (Replace "EXAMPLE" with a descriptive name)
<ref name="EXAMPLE">{{cite web |url=example.com}}</ref>
- Every time after that, you need to just add a self-closing reference tag where you would like the reference to appear:
<ref name="EXAMPLE" />
- Putting it all together, this code:
Haley is a cool person.<ref name="APU">http://apu.edu</ref> She goes to APU.<ref name="APU" /> She's very good at Wikipedia.<ref name="APU" /> {{reflist}}
- ^ a b c http://apu.edu
- Does this make sense? If not, feel free to reply and I'll see if I can clarify some more. ~ Matthewrbowker Make a comment! 04:36, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Incomplete edition of the article
Hi Matthew Bowker, This is in reference to the mail i sent you regarding the vandalism on the 'Non Cooperation Movement' page. I just received a response from you confirming the necessary editions but you seem to have missed a line mentioning 'Dhruv'. It is just above the 'Content' box. Please find the quoted text:
'The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre became the most infamous event of British rule in India. Dhruvji was horrified. He lost all faith in the goodness of the British government and declared that it would be a "sin" to cooperate with the "satanic" government.'
Please complete this last edition too so as to make the article error free and credible.

WP:Espionage New TaskForce Help
I'm here to ask for some help to create a new Taskforce in WikiProject Espionage under the Taskforce name of "Biographies". I realize that it has under 12 members, while the statistics of WikiProject Espionage concerning Biographies have a large amount of articles (over the assessment of Stub to A). I've been to the taskforce section but I still find it confusing. Creating a Taskforce for Biographies in WP:Espionage will do for now. Hope you can help me. It would be appreciated and worthwhile for WP:Espionage to have at least one Taskforce concerning Biographies. Adamdaley (talk) 00:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
