Hi, I saw you deleted the reference to Eastern Orthodox as incorrect. I can only say that I know little on the subject of rosary, so you must have had a reason. I see that contradiction comes from the very lead section - rosary => Roman Catholic Church. But the reference in rosary beads section in my idea must have such reference, though with qualifications that it is just a similar tradition, actually I see no difference at all the prayer rope/beads are used for the very same purpose. –Gnomz007(?) 22:01, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- I deleted the reference because it was completely untrue. A prayer rope bears some incidental resemblance to rosary beads because both prayer aids are derived from the pre-Christian use of prayer beads. And the Jesus Prayer as prayed on a prayer rope, bears an incidental resemblance to the practice of the Rosary, because they both involve repetitive prayer. That's where the similarity ends. --Matrona 02:01, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining that, I just followed the false lead of many Internet sites mixing traditional Old Belivers(!) prayer ropes with rosary, one even calls it "leather rosary". They basically too fixed on technical side, as I was too.
- BTW, you may wish to look at prayer rope prayer beads and lestovka articles, suspect you may see some inconsistecies there –Gnomz007(?) 03:27, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
