In mathewignash's (partial) defense, many of the images being tagged he uploaded a long time ago -- although pics going up still are sometimes problematic. I will abide, but I would appreciate help understanding specifically what is and isn't allowed. Maybe by example. I tried uploading things with new tags by following examples from other uploaded images that were not marked as wrong. Can you link to a couple examples of images of different types and such that are 100% correct before you unblock me? I'd appreciate it. Then I can try to do this in the correct manner. • Well, the first group of images that are always acceptable are photos you took yourself. All the images at Category:User-created GFDL images should be good examples. So if you photograph a toy, for example, we'd love to have that photo on Wikipedia!
• If an image is a DVD-cover or CD-cover, these are almost always acceptable in articles about that CD or DVD. This doesn't extend to toys, though, because a toy can be illustrated best by photographing the toy itself, while the CD cover or DVD cover is the only real image of the item. Examples include everything at Category:Album covers.

Is there any problem with my past uploads of a frame or cover from a comic book, in low res? user:mathewignash

It depends on the specific use. If an article about a comic book character does not have an image of that character, it's almost always acceptable to have a (lo-res) scan of that character from a comic book. The same's true for an article on an item or location from a comic. You run into problems when there is already an image of that character, since WP:NFCC#3 says we should use the minimal number of images necessary. You can also run into problems when the article isn't about the comic character. For example, we couldn't use a non-free image of a comic character holding a gun to illustrate the gun article.

It's tricky when you get to Transformers (which seems to be your specialty). For instance, in the Megatron article, it's okay to have a scan from the Japanese manga in the "Japanese manga" section, since a photo of the toy wouldn't show what the manga character looked like. But in the character's infobox, or at the top of the page, a photo of the toy would work just as well. So you couldn't use a scan from a magazine in this context. Actually, two days after the block he took a fair-use image he uploaded from another website and changed the tag to {{GFDL-self}} [3]. I've also found an incredible number of other images (most listed above) where he did the same thing earlier. While the earlier stuff can be excused, the most recent incident was clearly after he knew and had agreed not to continue the behavior. My mistake the first time I posted it, I looked and the picture at TFU.info was different, so I rechecked and found the picture in my "My Pictures" folder. I had won this toy on ebay a while back and forget I had taken pictures of it for my page, not from TFU. Thanks for your patience. I double-checked old version of TFU and the photo has always been the same, so it makes sense that you just accidentally put the wrong source up there. I've unblocked your account and made a note when unblocking that the block was in error.

As far as the other picture goes, you need to fix the fair-use rationale. The generic rationale you used on most of the pages isn't sufficient since just depicting the toy can be done with a free image. What you want to say on that image is that its being used to show how the character is depicted in a certain comic book, or as done by a certain designer - this is a much stronger rationale to use a non-free image. Image uploads - size/resolution

Hi - a lot of the images you have uploaded lately are too large or of too high a resolution per WP:NFCC#3b. Please keep them down to 0.1 megapixels or less (about 300 by 300). Otherwise, someone else has to resize them, and an admin has to delete the old revisions, which makes more work for everyone. In addition, if they're non-photographic uploads (like comic book panels), they should be in the PNG, not the JPEG, format, per WP:NFCC#6 and the image use policy. Thanks! I noticed at least six photos you uploaded are potential copyright violations. In all instances, you claim they were "promotional images by Hasbro", even though the photos appear on other websites as part of larger toy galleries/reviews using the same background for multiple photos:

• Image:Barricade-energon.jpg is taken from this gallery at Seibertron.com. (fixed)
• Image:Sdcc_skywarp.jpg is taken from this review at Autobase Aichi. (fixed)
• Image:Skydive-beastmachines.jpg is taken from this gallery at Unicron.com. (fixed)
• Image:Csthunderclash.jpg is taken from this gallery at Seibertron.com. (fixed)
• Image:Sentinelmaximus.jpg and Image:Ultramagnus-sentinelmaximus-overload.jpg are both taken from this gallery at Seibertron.com. (fixed)

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
